Maybe this was mentioned earlier, or maybe I'm missing something, but it seems to me that even if the vials have HGH and Clemens' DNA all over it doesn't mean he knew he was being injected with anything other than Vitamin B-12. If they can corroborate that evidence with a testimony of someone else who overheard McNamee telling Clemens what it was then they have something.

I'm looking forward to what he has to say if he keeps it up throughout the season. There could be some good stuff on there if the club doesn't put him on too tight a leash. The fact that he's not writing like a professional journalist doesn't bother me.

When did the fans vote on this? I never saw it. Biggio's historic moment garnered 25.9% of the vote, followed next by Rick Ankiel's HR in his return to MLB with 22.2%?

The BFIB stuffed the ballot. Breaking the all-time career HR record recorded a measly 9.5% of the vote. Of course we all know why.

Interestingly enough, she explicitly excludes that one:

Quote
Biggio's big night beat out other deserving nominees, including Tom Glavine's 300th win on Aug. 5, Alex Rodriguez's 500th career homer on Aug. 4 and Frank Thomas's 500th career homer on June 28, the same night Biggio logged No. 3,000.

I think someone else said it already but you might be better off starting from scratch rather than over-hauling your existing system.  The approach you are taking is likely only going to save you the cost of the case, which gives you the housing, power supply and main fan.  A case generally runs $60-$120, last I checked.

As far as "economy", you can definitely put less expensive parts in your system but you may regret that route.  Building your own PC is no longer the "cheap" option.  What it does for you is give you the flexibility to put money where it's worthwhile, i.e. processor and disk drive.

If you are going to do video capture and editing, make sure your harddrive is a high RPM model.  Anything lower than 7200 rpm drops video frames.  Whatever you do, do not skimp on the memory.

Let me know which route you go on the DVD-Writeable..  I was contemplating that addition but at the time, they were still debating preferred formats for DVD writeable drives.

As for installing heat-syncs, why is that problematic?  The only time I've ever seen a problem was if someone used too much silicone grease (you should get a little syringe with the grease you should use) or none at all.  If you remember using elmer's glue in elementary school you will recognize the phrase, "A little dab will do ya'!"  Once you seat the heat sync, it should flatten out to about a dime size, no bigger than a nickel on some of the older processors.  Too much and you get the silicone grease in places where it's not meant to be.

I've read a lot of great suggestions, but I haven't seen anyone mention electro-static discharge. If your teenager doesn't read instruction manuals then he probably doesn't wear his bicycle helmet either, and probably won't use something like this. But it's a good investment and you can also find it at Fry's for a reasonable price. It will help keep all that money you spent on that super duper quadro dual-exhaust graphics card from going to waste because of that new Christmas sweater.

You think Anderson's gonna start next year? I don't.

I don't know. I guess I read too much into Jim Molony's article:
Quote
Anderson can play all three outfield spots, but his best spot is in center field. The Astros already have Hunter Pence there, but may decide to move Pence to right field. If so, a center fielder must be found. The Astros will look at free agent possibilities this winter, but in the meantime, they want to check out Anderson.

I'm assuming they'll commit to Wigginton and Scott (certainly Ty) if for no other reason it makes it easier to focus on the more critical needs during the off-season.

With Anderson around do you really think Scott is still in the picture as much more than a 4th OF?

According to Ben DuBose, the American League is superior

Quote
The bad news, though, is that at 5-4 with a 3.60 ERA in the superior American League, Joe Blanton is still really good and a critical part of the outstanding A's rotation

I usually don't post new topics, and it's probably in the Cabrera category, but I hadn't seen anyone comment on this, and I thought it was strange coming from the Astros' site.

Astros.com is implying that due to Houston's first pick coming so late in the draft (as Jackonsian noted) the organization may very well target players who would normally be first or second rounders, but have presumably fallen because of signability concerns:

Similar but Dye has accumulated those averages over 12l years.  Scott's average is the result of a high and a low.

I like Dye's power better than Scotts.  I think the choice would be a rental that has a fairly good proven record or keep a younger player and see what his career looks like.

Yes, I agree that is the difference. I don't see how it makes sense giving up Scott + prospect(s) for a rental whose performance this season isn't any better. If they're shopping him then his club doesn't have much faith that he will turn around this season.

This may be heresy, but Biggio is killing us. Watching him amass enough AB's to limp into 3,000 hits is doing a disservice to his stellar career. He's conjuring up Willie Mays memories for me. He's got no range at 2B. He can't hit anything but mistake fastballs that catch too much plate. By the time that he limps into 3,000 hits, we'll be long out of it.

Maybe if Berkman, Scott and Everett were close to meeting expectations at the plate and somehow we were still losing you could complain about Biggio's batting (mentioning Mo or Lane is beating a dead horse). Biggio is much further down on the list of guys to pick on.

Lance bunts the first pitch, foul. Squares, pulls back, curve drops in for 0-2. Swings the bat, foul down the 3rd base dugout. Fouls another back. They keep showing Christy Yamaguchi (sic). Chops to Durham, 4-3. FUCK.

I'll try to regularly check www.knva.com for their polls and post the link if they do happen to put it up. Hunter getting reacquainted with RF may mean that M-Rod is getting closer to coming back into the fold.  Mike Rodriquez and Brooks Conrad are good players and it would be ashame to have them waste a year as minor league fodder.  Neither one of them coming up to the majors would surprise me, the same with Bruntlett because all three are fine role players that could help a major league team as utility guys.

Do you think you could give some scenarios as to how you think this would happen?

Unless it has changed recently, LL had a rule that no kid couldn't play because of an inability to pay.

If I had only known... I would have pestered my parents until they ended up giving in and going deeper in the hole because they didn't want to accept charity *sigh*. Such is life. All is good now, and I will without a doubt encourage and support my children with anything they want to do. The hard part will be trying not to push baseball if any of them are not interested.

i cannot imagine what large expenses there would be in joining a regular LL. i never heard of anyone being turned away, either, if cost was a factor. of course, bats and gloves are expensive, but not signing up for regular LL.

My parents, 14 years ago living paycheck to paycheck, could not afford $130 for the season. That doesn't seem like much now, but it was a lot then. I would bet it's gone way up since then. Perhaps it's just the area, but my parents weren't all that well off. It had to do with uniforms, paying umpires, etc. I was just a kid, so I don't know more details than that. Maybe it was a special league somehow.

regular LL is not expensive at all. it is the travel "select" teams that beed gullible parents dry.

This was the only league available. It was the public local league. I don't know what travel "select" teams are, but I don't think it was one of those, as we didn't travel anywhere.

I am in my late 20s. After a few years in little league my parents took me out of it because the costs of the local league had risen dramatically. We were just plain priced out of me being able to play. I think that has a lot to do with it, especially considering the aforementioned socioeconomics.

My family and I went to Germany to visit family when I was 16 (legal drinking age). That's when I realized the true power of flatulence. After a couple of stout German hefeweisens and some bratwurst I could clear out a room lickety split. My younger brother was unfortunate enough to be my roommate most of the trip. I think my parents were genuinely afraid he would get methane poisoning.

Since that was really my first long-term encounter with beer I turned out to be a serious beer snob. Although there were those desparate financial times in college when all my friends and I could afford were forties of Bud Ice and King Cobra from the local convenience store. Now I drink so rarely I just stick to the good stuff.

True, although Temple's AM 1400 (Elizabeth) is one of the best Astros affiliates in Central Texas.  When Westlake High School has a girls Lacrosse game that preempts the Astros on AM 1300 in Austin, I can always turn to AM1400 out of Temple, AM1010 out of Waco, or the flagship to hear the games.

Ooh, good info! I've been looking for those other two channels myself. Hopefully they will work well in SW Austin also.

Sometimes I can get 740 from Houston as well, but it can get rough this far out.

I don't think he'll stay in RR too long. He's hangin' pretty well with the big boys.

I'm reading, but I'm also listening, so reading isn't really necessary for me, just nice to look back on.

I'm pretty sure you're out of all of them, but that's besides the point. You were really comfortable with only being able to see half of the games, and on a computer, no less? Holy shit, man. That's no good, you need to work on that arrangement, post haste. Next thing you know, you're using smoke signals and tin cans for communication, living in a thatch hut, and learning how to make your own hemp sandals from your new friends in the commune. Right the ship quickly, there's still time...

LOL! Kinda... Eh. Well I made that "agreement" last October. I'll see if they will refund my money, and let me just convert it to gameday audio (last season I was able to listen to some games that way that I couldn't anywhere else).

From what I understand that's just the home games I can't see, right?

If I can't watch any of them then I'm gonna be pissed.

Well, I agreed with my wife to cut cable tv as long as I could sign up for MLBTV. Baseball is the only tv I can't live without.

On MLB.com, the way I found it was by going to the "Audio&Video" menu and selecting "Multimedia Guide", which takes me to The Link

Edit: And on the astros.com website it's the "Multimedia" menu.

I recently paid my dues for MLBTV this season, and I'm disappointed with the lack of availability of spring training games.

The spring training schedule shows only 7 games on MLBTV

At least we can listen to the rest.

Wow, thanks for sharing that. It's great you are able to reflect on the good that came from her life.

It reminds me why it's important to make such memories. My one year old son's first game was in Round Rock last season when Clemens came to town. We'll always remember that one.

God bless.

just a dusting. it is mostly ice/sleet, which started late yesterday afternoon. Austin may be iced in until after noon tomorrow.

It's trying to get thick here in the southwest part of town. For a while we had some fairly large flurries.

Iced roads. Can't go to work... Doh! Dern laptops and VPN.

You did not just post a link to another forum for discussion.  A lame forum and lame discussion.

That's trolling, and if Spack doesn't ban you I'll be stunned.

Sorry about that. I'll try to dig around more to see what this forum considers trolling.

Acrtually I think you are. Before Willy T was traded he was up there on the far right next to Oswalt. They removed him shortly after the trade.

Hmmmm... spleen!

I wasn't on this forum when the video was posted on this site, but I believe I may have found the one you're looking for. Someone sent the link to me about a year ago and I asked him if he still had it on his hard drive. He found it and sent it to me, so I uploaded it to YouTube. The original link was The Link but it's broken now.
