San Antonio making some more noise!

 Stadium proposal

Realizing it's a long-shot, I think it would be pretty cool to have an in-state NL rival if the Marlins moved to SA.

I wonder where they are planning to put this field.

I also wonder if the puffy taco would be at the games.

If this were to happen, I guess the Pirates would be bumped over to the NL East to make room for the Marlins in the Central.

I guess that McCombs has given up on getting a football team in SA and is now looking at BB.  I'd certainly support a team in SA when the 'Stros were playing them as would my wife when the ATL came to town.

A $200 million contribution from San Antonio is not going not cut it, though. They'll need a domed stadium unless they're going to start all their games at midnight.

What about the Alamodome?  Is that misnamed hulk of metal ever going to have a use?  It was really goofy when the Spurs played there, they had a huge curtain dividing up the stadium.  And the NFL has decided it's too crappy for football as well...so what's left?

The Alamodome was worthless from the day they broke ground.  Poorly conceived in every way.

It's not so much Red McCombs as it is County Judge (and former mayor) ((and my former little league coach)) Nelson Wolff, who is a baseball fanatic. When he was mayor he got the Mission's gorgeous new stadium ("Nelson P. Wolff Stadium") built. This is his current pet project.

While I'd love for there to be a NL team in SA, I just don't see it as viable. But we can dream.

There's not one event that the Alamadome is actually good for. It is pure folly.

Henry Cisneros, prior to getting caught doing the bone dance with a guerra, got his way on a lot of things during his mayoral years, one of which was the Alamodome.  He and others sold it to the voters as a multi use facility which would include baseball.  Today, it sits there hosting an occasional convention and Nebraskans and/or Iowans in town for the Alamo Bowl.

My mom is still mad about it.  I hear it is good for football games, but at this point, SA is not a town for a new football team.  Too many Cowboys fans in that town.

Yeah, they spread like a bad rash.  Which is fitting I guess, cause most of them get under your skin.

It may be good for a bowl game, but it is too small for the NFL.

Oh, and the acoustics are atrocious, so it's not even good for concerts.

The Boondoggledome? Goofy yes, but I kind of like it when the Spurs played there, only because you could wait 'til the last minute, walk-up and always get a seat. 30,000 to 35,000 seats will do that. I know I'm not the typical fan when it comes to things like stadiums and uniforms. I couldn't give a shit. I just like watching the games. A plank of wood was a good enough seat for my scrawny butt.

I used to do that at the old Hemisfair Arena in the mid 80's. Of course, that's when they started Mike Mitchell and Walter Berry.
