ALCS game 4
« on: October 19, 2010, 07:41:16 pm »
RF umpire really covering himself in glory in this inning. Blows the fan interference call and then calls Pumas foul ball a HR.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I don't understand why they wouldn't review that fan interference call. I don't know if they would have changed the call or not, but it seemed like a play that should have obviously been reviewed. If you're not going to review something that clear-cut, why have the rule?

Ridiculous that wasn't reviewed (unless the rules don't call for it in that circumstance in which it is a ridiculously written rule).  And Berkman absolutely crushed his HR turned non-HR!

Teixiera pulled a hammy running to 1B.  Perhaps Berkman will see some action there for the remainder of the series.

You can hear the audible groans in the hall and out the window.

Does it matter at all they got both calls right?

Both calls?  Cruz was clearly interfered with in the 1st one in the field of play.  If you're going to have a rule that allows instant replays for disputed home run calls, plays like the first one ought to be reviewable as well.

ETA: And I wish (for his sake) that Berkman's monster shot would have stood, but am pleased that an inappropriate HR was taken off the board.

I haven't been watching AL ball, but Ron Washington's bullpen machinations are frustrating to watch.

Puma coming to the plate with the bases juiced.  Conflict of emotions.

Wanted him to jack one out.  The Yankees would still have been down by 1... He smashed the ball, but Young made a great play on it to end the threat.  Now all I'll hear from my Yankee friends tomorrow is how bad Berkman sucks...

And Rangers put double digits on the Yankees with back-to-back homers from Hamilton and Cruz.  T9: TEX 10, NYY 3

He clearly was not.  The ball clearly had crossed over the top of the fence before a fan touched anything.

This is correct, although I can't see how the RF ump could have discerned that without review.

You may want to remind them that Berkman isn't on the hill giving up all of those jackballs.

You cannot reach over and touch the players glove regardless.  If in the opinion of the umpire it was an uncatchable ball, that is one thing (I would disagree with that one), but there is no way that fans touching a players glove while the player and glove are still in the field of play is allowed.  If the player reaches over the stands, then it is a different story.  Was he in the stands?

wouldn't a grand slam have tied it 7-7?

I thought it was 8-3 but I'd not put it past me to have been mistaken...

Yup.  We agreed that the ball wasn't catchable (it was in the air for an hour and only just reached the seats - meaning that is was coming pretty much straight down when it landed), and I also don't understand why no review was made.  However, I don't know what the rule is about touching a player's mitt over the field of play.  Is that unintentional or blatant pass interference?

I think we can all agree that Yankee fans are douches.
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.
