-
Is the ROYMVP usually second in the Yankee's lineup? Is that a shakeup?
-
That’s normal. I’m happy to see Gurriel moved up.
-
What is weird about these two teams is that they both have 1B hitting in the second half of the order, DHs hitting in the bottom 3rd, RFers hitting 2nd and SSs hitting 4th. 3B is hitting 8th and 9th.
-
Is the ROYMVP usually second in the Yankee's lineup? Is that a shakeup?
Negatory. He’s been batting second for a while.

Like all year.
-
Lot of further like former 2004/2005 here.

OK...let's hope the game goes better than the anthem. That was brutal.

I'll take PBP assuming Hudson is at the game.

So, the Mrs picked a great day to have contractors pouring concrete!

I'll take PBP assuming Hudson is at the game.
Not at the game, but you can take PBP. I'll just make my insightful comments.
-
TOP 1st. Gardner-Judge-Sanchez due up
-
Gardner K's swinging. 1 out, Judge up
-
Judge walks on five pitches. Runner on 1st, 1 out, Sanchez up
-
Sanchez K's swinging. Runner at 1st, 2 out, Gregorius up
-
That's what I needed, Now let's rattle those bats boys!
-
Gregorius taps a grounder to Altuve.
MID 1st - No score
-
I'm telling you folk...Shiner Homespun Cream Ale...
-
BOT 1st - No score. Springer-Reddick-Altuve due up
-
Nice start, Dallas.
I may get skewered here, but I enjoy Smoltz as a color analyst especially when he touches on a pitcher's approach.
-
Springer talks a leadoff walk on 5 pitches (should've been 4). Runner on 1st, 0 out, Reddick up
-
Reddick grounds to second, Springer is out but Reddick beats out the double play. Runner on 1st, 1 out, Altuve up
-
Altuve...aggressive and hit it well, but to the deepest part of the park.
-
Altuve flies out to center a couple steps short of the track. Runner on 1st, 2 out, Correa up
-
Man I'd love to see Correa with a big series.
-
Wouldn't mind Reddick trying to take a bag here...
-
Blah. Five pitch walk, then three outs on the next six pitches.
-
Correa watches two pitches right down the gut, then grounds out to short on 0-2.
END 1st - No score
-
TOP 2nd - No score. Castro-Hicks-Bird due up
Castro grounds out to third. 1 out, Hicks up
-
Hicks hits a foul off the roof, then K's looking on the outside corner a couple pitches later. 2 out, Bird up
-
Holy shit...there's a Tuffy Rhodes jersey in the stands.
-
Bird K's on a foul tip. 4 K's and 30 pitches for Keuchel through 2.
MID 2nd - No score

Holy shit...there's a Tuffy Rhodes jersey in the stands.
That is a rare one on the Astros jersey bingo card.

Buck promoting the "band box" myth already.

Gurriel grounds out to short. 2 out, Beltran up

Tanaka has settled in quite nicely. Better jump on him soon.

Meanwhile Tanaka's reward for getting thru 2 innings is to face Bregman in the 8th spot.
-
Note to Joe Buck...that wasn't Sanchez's leg.

Take that weak-ass shit through the box, Bergman.

Note to Joe Buck...that wasn't Sanchez's leg.
He's leg-gorveling.

Tanaka pitching away well to righties.

Announcers still talking about what a home run haven MMP is. It's like they haven't watched a game since 2001.
Especially galling after we lost a game because of how ridiculous the RF line is in Fenway.
-
B3:
Springer...ball...swings out of his shoes for strike one...swings out of his shoes for strike two...ball...strikes out swinging
Tanaka cruising...no score through three
-
Note to Joe Buck...that wasn't Sanchez's leg.
It was his third leg.

Tremendous third strike pitch.
I think the HPU is doing a good job so far tonight. I've disagreed with a few around the edges, but I haven't seen anything egregiously wrong yet.

Joe Buck reduced the number of wangs that I think he fellates by 25% simply by stating that Altuve is his clear vote for MVP.

You know, I really thought that the NY environment be the death of Castro, that the NY media would chew him up, spit him out, and destroy his confidence. Somehow he seems to have thrived.

T4:
Hicks flies out F8 at the wall
No score

Quite the band box, eh Joe?

You'd think Buck would know that once a hitter leaves the dirt area around home plate, he's considered having abandoned his attempt to advance and is automatically out. But he hates baseball.

I'd say he's doing ok at 97 pitches...

Keuchel pitched Wynona as consistently as the big guy could be pitched. Wynona's not hitting low and away, Keuchel gave him l0w an away 80% of the time. It was amazing.
Altuve is fast. That first hit should not have been that first hit, and his run from second to home was as fast. Correa's no sluggard either.
Marwin's throw was as good live as it was on memorex, McCann's play at the plate was also fine. It occurred to me that I've seen more outs at home plate the season as I've ever seen.
I wish Giles wasn't quite so exciting.

I also don't see what was so bad about the anthem.

You do play the trombone though. But I kind of appreciate folk that go out and sing it straight up.
-
You're a part of a VERY large group that was wrong about him. Myself included

anyone who says they expected THIS from Keuchel is lying.

I don't think even Keuchel could have imagined he'd be anywhere near this good in 2013

For me Keuchel's as much of a surprise as Altuve.

Altuve had some major league success in both 12 and 13 though so I always felt like he would be at least an ok player. In 2013 I didn't think keuchel belonged on a big league field.

Kudos on both to the pre-Luhnow guys.

I'm started off fine. Then they broke into a completely different tune and sang it at half speed. I really wish people would just sing it the way it's written.
-
OK...let's hope the game goes better than the anthem. That was brutal.
They sounded great live.
-
Watching pitch counts in the postseason is necessary because it is about effectiveness,
Bullshit. Effectiveness has nothing to do with a number.

Still miles better than Clay Walker.
I haven't been that jittery at an Astros playoff win since the Bruntlett-Everett DP 2005 NLCS Game 4. Every moment was incredibly dramatic.
We were sitting in 104 which I've never before sat at and is an interesting place to watch a game. Great view of home plate, but every drive to center field, of which there were a few, was a complete mystery. There is no convenient men's room anywhere near the Crawford Boxes.
Marwin continues to prove himself as one of the most perfectly rounded baseball players I've ever seen. Altuve is utterly amazing. The big inning was an infield hit, timely steal, single, productive out, and another single. Altuve showed he is one of the best players in the game at bat, in the field, and on the bases.
Keuchel was amazing against his favorite opponent. I hope it's not necessary but if so game 5 is going to be fascinating to watch.

Great GZ. Just finished reading it. What a game!

the only thing missing were a few auto accessory and lodging suggestions mixed in.

Now that I have a few minutes at work to catch up with the thread, as a former baritone in the Second Baptist choir, I'd like to give a hearty "screw you" to you, jackass.
And here I was for ten years thinking you were a woman. Damn, am I embarrassed.

Me too.

Great Game Zone guys. Great game too.

I liked them.

Last night's was a really high-quality game on both sides, much, much better than that slopfest between the Nats and Cubs that we watched Thursday night. The only gaffe I can recall is Altuve's mistake on the ground ball, and there were several outstanding defensive plays. Great pitching on both sides. It was a delight to watch.
-
What a game; what a GZ!!! Geaux Astros!
-
It sure is fun to read these threads the morning after an ALCS win.
BTW, Marwin's throw home was clocked at 97.4 mph, fastest throw of the year. And it was absolutely perfect.
-
From Justices' column post-game: Keuchel is the first pitcher since at least 1912 to go 4-0 with a sub-1.00 ERA in his first four postseason starts.

Agree. I could not be in the GZ last night and was excited all morning today to come in and read the blow-by-blow.
Marwin's flops to the ground on these throws home crack me up. I'd only seen that a couple time before and he's done it twice now in the last few weeks. Is that normal for him?
-
Crowd seems very subdued tonight.
It sure sounded that way on TV. Not that it wasn't loud, but it sure didn't seem as loud as game 1 & 2 of the ALDS, which were day games. Weird.

It's possible, if not likely, that it was just the broadcast. Different networks may have different cameras/microphones/noise level limits etc. Surely the network didn't want to drown out Joe Buck and his hard on for Aaron Judge.
On a side note, I made the mistake of going to ESPN this morning. Among the headlines about last night's game (paraphrased):
"Judge starting to light it up, only struck out once last night"
"Even Jose Altuve thinks Judge is clearly the MVP."
"If the Yankees win Game 2, they have the Astros right where they want them and it's pretty much a lock. But even if the Astros win Game 2, they still have their backs against the wall, and it's still almost a lock for the Yankees"
"Yankees are pretty much assured of winning Game 2 because Severino is better than Verlander."
"The Yankees should win Game 2 because Chapman will be available, unlike in Game 1 where that would have made all the difference."

Certainly the way the mics/volume was setup is likely. Interested to hear from someone at the ALDS and yesterday, what the crowd noise was like.
-
The tension seemed wound tight but the big offensive blow never came to set the place off.
At least that was my feeling from the couch.
-
Had a great seat at the bar last night. Tension is right. It has been so long, I forgot how nerve racking every single pitch can be. This is fun.

You know, I was much more nervous about the Boston series. I was fairly relaxed last night and able simply to enjoy the game. I think my worry about the Boston series was not wanting a repeat of the KC meltdown from 2015 and somehow having that stamped as the identity of the team.

Well I agree BOS/NY. But once it was clear that Tanaka was on and runs were gonna be at a premium, and knowing how good their bullpen is, it changed for me.

I've been to every home game and Game 1 of the ALCS was just as electric as the LDS games. Today's game blew the roof off of anything I've ever seen.
-
It sounded much louder today.
-
It wasn't World Series loud, but it was pretty damn loud in 116.
