I think that Leonys Martin just wrapped up the bonehead play of the day right there.
-
T1:
Martin with a stand up triple on a 1-2 hanging change up...over Gomez's head as he takes his usual horrible route to the ball
Smith strikes out looking
Cano...career .500 hitter against LMJ...strikes out swinging on a ball in the dirt...Castro to 1B to complete the strikeout, Martin inexplicably tries to score, and jogs into the 3-1 double plat at the plate. Strange.
No score.
-

Hard to imagine a worse one.
-
Astros turn the ol' 2-3-1 double play to get out of a first inning jam. That was a special kind of stupid.

Servais came out to argue that McCullers was blocking the plate without the ball.
-
Altuve must of taught Cano that technique. Caught a break there.
-
B1:
Springer doubles off the LCF wall...close play at 2B, but gets in there
Marwin singles to LF, Springer to 3B
Altuve...667 hitter against Miley...scalds a line drive that almost knocks the SS over, but is caught for an out
Correa walks, Marwin to 2B
Valbuena sac fly F8 to deep CF, Springer scores, Marwin to 3B
Gomez lines out to LF on the first pitch
Balls blistered all over the yard and the Astros grab a 1-0 lead.
-
And Ashby criticized Correa for drawing a walk.
-
McCullers is up with everything. He's going to get his brains beat out if he doesn't get that sorted out.
-
And Ashby criticized Correa for drawing a walk.
He actually had a point.
-
T2:
Cruz grounds out 6-3
Seager hits one down the RF line, dumbass fans interfere, and it's ruled a double
Lee hammers one to the RCF gap, legs it into a single...Seagar scores
Lind strikes out looking
Zunino grounds out 4-3
1-1
-

Explain. He should swing at balls out of the strike zone?
-
B2:
Rasmus grounds out 4-3
Gattis walks
Castro grounds into 3U-6 double play
1-1
-

He was just commenting about your cleanup hitter working the count with a runner on 3B and less than 2 out. Correa took a strike and several other close pitches. His point was that Correa is up there to drive that run in. Not suggesting that Correa should would flailing wildly, but Ashby was not necessarily off point either.

I understand what you're saying, but guess I'm just so damn sick of hearing it every time he comes to the plate. Plus, I think if Correa swings at a ball off the plate and pops up, I'm sure there would be comments about that as well.
-
T3:
Marte strikes out swinging
Martin strikes out swinging
Smith strikes out swinging
1-1

Understood. And I'm no Ashby apologist. But lack of situational aggressiveness is not an unfair criticism of Correa.
-
B3:
Springer grounds out 6-3
Marwin strikes out swinging
Altuve taps one towards 3B, Seager can't make the barehanded pickup...infield single
Correa lines out to RF on a sliding grab by Cruz
1-1 after three
-
T4:
Cano grounds out 3U
Cruz strikes out swinging
Seagar flies out F8
1-1 still
-
These are not my favorite 4th of July caps of all time.

Not getting much luck with the hard hit balls today.

Ain't catching that one.
-
Vacationing in Portland OR. and I got upset when I realized I was blocked from watching the game due to the proximity to Seattle. Found it on a tv and I don't have to listen to ashby! Life is good.

Gattis grounds out 4-3
Castro grounds out 3U
Springer homers to LCF
Marwin with a rulebook double down the RF line
Altuve grounds out 5-3
Astros grab a 2-1 lead
-
The sound of the crack of the bat when Springer squares up to one is one of the loudest I can remember, although I'm sure stadium broadcasting acoustics have improved.

T6:
Marte bounces back to the mound...McCullers almost throws it into RF, but gets the 1-3 out

2-1 Astros

I wasn't looking at the television, heard the crack and knew it was likely gone.
-
Dae-ho Lee is a huge Korean. He makes J.R. Reed look just a little above average size.
-
M's have bases juiced with nobody out in the 7th...
-
McCullers has made a nice mess this inning....
-
Sweet!
-
That helps but not out of the woods yet.
-

Cruz...3-0...walks on four pitches, none of them within two feet of the plate. Cano to 2B
Seager singles to LF, Cano to 3B, Cruz to 2B
Lee grounds into 1-2-3 double play, Cano out at the plate, Cruz to 3B, Seager to 2B

What a job by McCullers...
At the stretch...2-1 Astros

Nice job, Lance!
-
Yikes. Off the bat I thought that was an excuse me two run double.
-
I love a 1-2-3 DP.
-
I love a 1-2-3 DP.
*Zing*!
-
Some of McCullers' sliders were devastating. Some of them were spinners in the middle of the plate, too, but when he unleashes a good one, it's unhittable.
-
B7:
Gattis pops out F6
Castro...3-0...takes strike one...takes strike two...takes strike three
That's all for Miley...Wilhelmsen in...Miley pissed, yells "FUCK"
Springer grounds out 5-3 on the first pitch
2-1 Astros still
-
T8:
Gregersonin...
Zunino strikes out looking
Marte grounds out 4-3
Martin grounds out 4-3 on the first pitch
quick 1,2,3 8th...Astros still up 2-1
-
I'd sure like to have a 2-run lead when Cano comes up next inning.
-
Astros have bases loaded, two out in the 8th...
-
B8:
Marwin flies out F7
Altuve dribbles one in front of the plate, Wilhelmsen fields it but can't get Altuve...20-ft infield single
Correa...full count...pops out F5 in foul ground
Wilhellmsen out...Rollins in
Valbuena...full count...walks, Altuve to 2B
Wild pitch...Altuve to 3B, Valbuena to 2B
Gomez intentionally walked
Rasmus...3-0...3-1...grounds out 4-3 at a pitch in the dirt
Astros leave the bases loaded...head to the 9th, clinging to a 2-1 lead
-
Colby took a cookie on 3-0 then swung at ball four. Ouch.

I was ok with the take on the 3-0 pitch, but swinging at that 3-1 pitch did the M's a real favor.

With the bases loaded and a lead in the 8th like that, I think your approach should be the same 3-0 and 3-1. If you get your pitch 3-0, I'm ok with taking a whack at it. But you should be just as selective 3-1.

This, all day long. Colby's got to control himself better.
-
T9:
Harris in to try to close it out...
Smith...works the count full...grounds out 3-1
Cano strikes out swinging
Cruz flies out F9 at the wall
Astros win 2-1!!!

Nice way to break the mini skid.
Why do some fans leave before the last out? Like leaving a movie before the final scene.
-
Nice crisp holiday game...2 1/2 hours, and the 9th took 30 minutes. Good baseball game.
-
Good win! Have a great fourth everyone!
-
These are not my favorite 4th of July caps of all time.
I hated them.

That is my feeling as well but my sensibilities are a touch too refined to be inclined to be quite so explicit in public opinion.

yes. I have always admired that about you.
-
If they win wearing them, I love the special occasion caps, if they lose, I fucking hate them.

God damnit, I hope so. Maybe it's just old age, but I really like peace in the valley, especially when it comes to two men for whom I have considerable respect. Ten years ago, not so much on the peace side. But that was then and this is now.

I'm glad that you have found a better place.

Me too. I'm reminded of Hank Williams' song that he recorded under the alias Luke the Drifter called I've Been Down That Road Before, where a former pain-in-the-ass takes up peace and quiet and encourages all others similarly situated to give it a try. You all personally witnessed my melt down about ten years ago at this time. It was a very hard fall, but life is so much better now that I lived to come through the other side. And I've been able to help some people here too who wrested with similar demons. That, and the fact that this website has become part of me, keeps me coming back, living life one day at a time. I love life today. Ten years ago, I didn't.
