Title: Ankiel
Post by: geezerdonk on April 20, 2013, 11:50:18 am
Has 10 RBIs in 31 PAs. Maybe he needs to be in the ineup more often.

If the owner was interested in winning this year, instead of hoping to be winning by 2015, there would be a lot of changes. The owner believes it's okay to lose today if you're trying to win two or three years from now. If the owner had a shred of decency he would price tickets at level commensurate with the level of talent he provides, not at the level commensurate with the talent his opponents provide. The owner wants you to buy an empty box with the hope that in a few years he'll put something of quality in it.

He has 4 ABs against LHP and 4 Ks against them. The Nats didn't play him against left-handed pitching either.

I think how he's being used is perfect.

Wrong. He doesn't see lefties very well.

Has 23 Ks in 31 PAs. maybe he needs to ride the pine more often.

I stand corrected.

There's a left handed pitcher, he struck me out.

There's a left handed pitcher, he struck me out too.

There's Wesley Wright, he would strike me out.

Damn, Ankiel is good at this!

With a hat tip to MoBerg's "I'd hit that" plate approach.

At present, Ankiel has nine hits, seven of which went for extra bases (five home runs) and 24 K's out of 38 official trips, so he's striking out regularly against righties too.

FWIW, the team is still comfortably on pace to break the Cubs' record of 1,404 strikeouts in a season.

That's 8.67 Ks / game.  The Astros, through 25 games, are at 9.92 Ks / game.

Even with a day off yesterday, Carter maintained his lead over all fellow MLB players in the most strikeouts category. However, Toronto with Arencibia and Rasmus lead the Astros' Carter and Ankiel in the top two tandem strikeout competition. With Ankiel playing only part time, Carter need sto pick up the pace.

Carter also leads the league in pitches per at bat.

That would seem to be a good thing, yes?

Some guys are charged with getting on base, some guys are charged with advancing runners, and some guys are charged with driving in runners. Carter is charged with running up the opposition's pitch counts.

Better done by guys at the top of the order rather than the guys that are to drive them in?

Two minutes in the penalty box for failure to detect [sarc] tag.

Guys at the top of the lineup get more at-bats, more Carter at-bats means a higher pitch count for the starter.  Simple enough.

every hitter in the lineup should be more selective.

I concur.
