Draft Day Predictions
« on: June 05, 2014, 08:00:02 am »
Ok let's hear 'em.

Who you think the Astros will take with their 1st and 2nd picks, plus who you'd like to see them take.

Mine:
1. Rodon
2. Bukauskas

Hope they take:
1. Aiken
2. No preference, Reed or Papi would fill a nice area of need.

1 Aiken
2 Reed

Jackson still intrigues me though, but a portsider who can hit triple digits is reminiscent of Aroldis Chapman, which is a good thing, seems too good to pass up. I wonder if the early experience with Appel factors into the calculus.

I don't know much about the guy, but I never got the impression he was a flamethrower.

BP and BA have the Astros takin Aiken
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I don't know much about the guy, but I never got the impression he was a flamethrower.

He'll hit 96-97 MPH, but he's going to sit around 92-94 MPH.  Still a plus fastball from the left side, but his command and life help it play up.

As for my predictions, I'll go the Reuben route and list who I think they'll pick and who I would like them to pick.

Hope:

1 - Aiken (Jackson would be okay, as well)
2 - Buskauskas (Hoffman would be the ideal, but the industry appears to currently penalize pitchers who throw hard because they may be headed for TJ and reward pitchers who have already had the surgery even though they'll lose a year)

Predict:

1 - Rodon (I've mentioned it before, but I think he impressed the right people at the right time)
2 - Luke Weaver (kind of hard to predict at this point, as they could offer someone over-slot money, but I'll go with the college righty)

Nola - (I think he passed Rodon as the safe choice)
Hoffman - (Going to be real tough for a team picking top 10 to choose someone who just had TJ)

I don't know, but I am sure that they have a ranking/bonus formula.  They'll be willing to go to X bonus on their #1 rated guy and if that doesn't work they'll go to Y bonus on the #2 rated guy where X>Y.  Who they have ranked where and what bonus number they're looking at is beyond me.

But the names from my ass are 1 Rodon, 2 Reed.

It was interesting, Elias was on the radio this morning saying that they got lucky two years ago on pricing, but that they didin't really make their decisions on that basis.

I predict Rodon but I want Jackson.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

Aiken
