Congratulations to Drew Corleone and his runners up.  If anyone is interested, Drew went for style on this year's lid:

The Link

He was appropriately surprised that there was anything other than the Derek Bell card.  I was trying to think of who'd won the RFTL, and here's the list I came up with, dating back to the BFT:

2005  Drew Corleone (with Hurricane David, Phil in CS, and David in Jackson)
2004  Andy Zipp
2003  Jim R
2002  no winner
2001  Neil T (the first year I ran it--I picked first)
2000  no winner (the last year Noe ran it, and I'm sure he's still ticked)

I don't remember the RFTL before 2000.

Actually, in 1999 Astrobabe won the lid (the first year we ran the contest).  The next year... *NOBODY*... chose the correct number.  However, two arseholes declared themselves winners: Cam Bonifay and HD.  Both said that since they were close... by 10 games each, that they won.

I told them they could go fuck themselves if they think a contest that was to pick the *correct* number meant to *come close*.  They badgered me every chance they had so I made them a peace offering:

Give me your personal address so I can go deliver the caps in person, in my own special way.

Neither one agreed, so again I told them they should just go fuck themselves then.  And right after that I handed you the contest to run any way you want and the rest is history.

I think next year there should be an unreward for the person with the worst guess.

They should have to wear this hat to all the playoff games

 WORST. ASTROS. HAT. EVER.

More free bowls of soup with that sucker.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Holy Shit, that's an ugly hat.

I once saw a cowboy hat on e-bay that was orange and had the old Astros logo (like the orange caps) that I wanted to buy for a river trip to the guadalupe. But there wasn't time to win the bid and get it shipped so I said screw it. I still regret it, though, and I often think about how I'd still like to have that ugly, ugly hat.

I remembered Cam Bonifay, though I didn't remember HD.  I also remember it being ugly, and the source of The Rule: I can make up any rule I want, anytime.

Who is this HD that I've seen referenced from time to time?
"Ground ball right side, they're not gonna be able to turn two OR ARE THEY, THROW, IS IN TIME!!! WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE TURN BY BRUNTLETT AND EVERETT, AND THEY CUT DOWN MABRY TO END THE GAME, AND THE ASTROS LEAD THIS NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES THREE GAMES TO ONE!!!!!"

Not Hurricane David, if that's what you're asking.  Go through the HOFs and you can get a taste.  Someone else can type the whole history.

Ah, yes.  I knew it wasn't referring to me, but whenever someone else DID call me HD I could sense the tension.  The name rings a bell now.

The name rings a bell now.

Bangs a gong. Sounds a fucking air raid siren.

You really are new.  When I see "HD" in a post I don't hear a bell, I hear the world's largest freight engine air horn blast at point blank range.
