Too late; I'm watching.

And we're off to a typical Lyles beginning. Ground ball by Kinsler to Altuve's left that he should have gotten to but didn't. Andrus hits a chopper through the hole on the left, whoever's in left decides to throw to third, which naturally is too late to get Kinsler and too late to get the ball back to second to get the advancing Andrus. Then Rios comes up and doubles down the 3B line, scoring Kinsler and Andrus.

Beltre just struck out, so we've got that going for us.

It is ugly: two weakly hit balls, a second baseman with no range to his left, a pitcher having trouble keeping the ball down, and a stupid decision in the outfield.  The Rangers might have found a team they can beat.

Me too. Maybe they'll be so exhausted from running the bases that they'll keel over for whomever they play next.

Lead-off walk by Gentry, who follows it with a steal of second (perhaps abetted by a poor tag by Villar). Murphy grounds out to 2nd, moving Gentry to 3rd.

A drawn-in Altuve makes a nice diving play on a hard-hit ball, gets the hitter at 1st, and holds Gentry at 3rd.

Good grief, Lyles. He throws a perfectly straight ball perfectly down the middle, and is rewarded with a screaming line drive by Kinsler that bounces off the CF fence straight back to Barnes for a double.

Shit, there's another one. Andrus was so surprised that he forgot to swing.

Andrus lines out to left center, Barnes making the catch. Time for 90 seconds of offensive frustration.

A pair of lead-off singles, but true to form, they're stranded.

The Rangers just had a priest named Father Cox bless their dugout.  Father Cox.

I'm suspecting that the Astros might not win this game.

Did anyone tell them that they didn't have to worry about Miami any longer?

I don't think they're worrying.

In the little I could watch last night, I saw nothing looking like a ML team opposing the Rangers. Lyles was simply awful. I think I'm glad I don't have Comcast.

I wonder if we'll see a different pitching coach next season, especially since both Harrell and Lyles significantly regressed this season.

I wouldn't lay Harrell's awfulness at Brocail's feet. Lyles's problem, it seems to me, is that his fastball has absolutely no movement. If he throws it in the strike zone, it gets hammered. I don't know if there's anything that Brocail can do about that, either.

I would argue that Lyles' fastball has a lot of movement. Specifically, it has great in-and-out movement: it moves in to opposing batters' wheelhouses, and out of the ballpark.

I'm not putting any blame on Brocail for either pitcher. I just haven't seen a lot of progress out of the pitchers, and the two situations that I brought up regressed during his watch. I wouldn't be surprised by a change in pitching coach.

Every Lyles  FB is belt high it seems. I suspect that is not by design. BTW, going into last night's game, Lyles had a sub-4.00 ERA on the road. I never would have thought that.

Agreed.  He looked lost last night.  He was a once a pitcher with solid command who now cannot keep his fastball down in the zone or hit the corners with consistency.  I don't blame Brocail as Lyles is ultimately responsible for his own success and failure, but it wouldn't surprise me if Brocail is not around next year.
