Well, that didn't take long. First pitch of the game...1-0 Pirates
-
Colin Moran with an RBI double...2-0 Pirates
-
4-0 Pirates
Peacock getting hammered
-
Good grief.

4-0 Pirates
Peacock getting hammered
Remember when the Astros starting pitching was considered an overall bright spot? Ah, the good ol' days.
Peacock is just piping pitches.
-
Sneed warming up in the bullpen. We're in the 1st inning
-
Also, thank god we sacrificed the position player pitchers last night. Now the bullpen can get their brains beat in today by a shitty, bottom or the barrel NL team.

Gonna be a long day for the pen

Peacock finally gets out of the first inning

Missing his spots by feet.
-
Unfortunately, Max Stassi is unavailable for relief tonight. Because he's catching.

Last 5 starts before today for Peacock... 4.45 ERA might be time to make an early move for a starter

Altuve with a sharp, 1-out single to LF
-
It's going to be that kind of day...
-
Couple of punchouts. Astros go down in the 1st.
-
Altuve with a sharp, 1-out single to LF
Silver lining in this turd sandwich.
-
Another ball roped, but a nice play by Alvarez nails the runner trying to stretch a double
-
Next pitch smoked off the LF scoreboard.
Peacock throwing puss
-
Way to pick up the pen, Peacock. Jeezus.
-
That reminds me, who is the emergency catcher? I would assume Aledmys if he's healthy but I can't think of any real candidate on this roster.

Not anywhere close to Stassi’s target.

My guess would be Gurriel. But I don't want to think about that.
-
White
I doubt very seriously he could get into the crouch. Although on the plus side the chest protector might be superfluous.
Anyway, it would be good to be able to keep his bat in the lineup.

I heard it on the radio broadcast recently. I couldn't detect any sarcasm.

Hinch
-
Peacock can't throw on target to first, either.
-
Of course that Josh rocket turns into an easy 3U double play.
Good to see that vintage Yuli line drive though.
-
Peacock with a 2-base error
-
6-0 Pirates
-
Jesus Christ. Fuck you, Peacock.
-
Fight at the Pirates' bat rack.
-
Who has the white flag?
-
Who has the white flag?
Hinch has apparently thrown in the towel already. Peacock's gonna have to take a beating for the team.
-
At this rate I fully expect the battery to be Julia/Kalas.
-
Alvarez out in LF
Peacock out, Sneed in
-
Why pull Alvarez?
-
Why pull Alvarez?
They didn't say. Maybe he's going up to the Big Leagues
-
Why pull Alvarez?
Hinch is done with this game. Alvarez can rest the knee/leg he smashed with that foul.

He's probably got a giant bruise with distinctive stitch marks- not knee damage.

Discomfort encompasses everything from a bruise to amputation.

Discomfort encompasses everything from a bruise to amputation.
And usually towards the latter

Of course. I am basing my super scientific diagnosis on the play we saw the other night that led him to lay down on the field in pain and the play we didn't see where he damaged his knee in some more serious fashion.
I realize I'm leaving out the possibility of a home massage without a happy ending.

From the foul ball? I hope.

That's the assumption.

Good excuse to let him rest.

Pretty much the only highlight of this game so far.
Always fun when a mediocre former teammate shoves it squarely up your ass by doing nothing but throwing hittable strikes that are inexplicably being watched.
-
For their last 16 hits, the Astros have scored 2 runs. The Pirates, over the same period have had 24 hits and scored 21 runs.
-
Stallings with his first Major League home run, the fifth Pirate HR of the day...8-0
-
Apparently the Astros would be firmly the laughing stock of the NL Central.
-
Do not know what you are are smarter than I think, but I think it is time for a trade.

Unless we're trading about 12 people, I don't think it's going to do much to move the needle. The roster with very few exceptions has been fucking putrid for just about all of the last 10+ games.

Thinking about pitching. The offense will be back.
-
Hooray, another mediocre former Astro dominating.

They could find themselves in second place by the end of the weekend.

After today the Rangers are only 4 back, right?

I think so. And playing very well.
-
Astros have given up 72 runs, and counting, in their last 10 games.
-
Last 7 series, Astros have given up:
SEA: 28 runs (win)
BAL: 7 runs (win)
MIL (2-games): 15 runs (tied)
TOR: 16 runs (win)
CIN: 10 runs (loss)
NYY: 25 runs (loss)
PIT: 25 runs (loss)
-
Sneed takes one for the team. I am guessing that he will be back in Round Rock by sundown.
-

Rangers now 4.5 back.

Some folks pay extra for that, Cotton.

Say this for them: they don't lose a lot of nailbiters.
-
Alvarez interview after the game and he says he felt the knee fielding a fly ball and stopping real quick. Had a treatment and MRI and waiting for results. Hoping to miss just a day or two.
-
Astros have lost:
9 of last 11 games
their last three series (including their first home series loss)
5 games off their division lead (down to 4 1/2 and everyone in the division seems to be playing well).
Please! Make it stop!
-
Agree that the offense will come around.
The pitching, on the other hand . . .
-
Can you imagine what Colorado is going to do to them next week? White and Stassi better keep their arms loose.

Let's hope this was August.

Who is “them?”
-
The Astros in general and the Astros' pitchers in particular.
