message from Mike Capps to you
« on: November 20, 2009, 09:06:17 am »
Jim--

Would you mind thanking your mates at Spikesnstars for their kind comments concerning the award?   There were some really nice ones and I really appreciated it.  As you know, I follow along religiously on that site without commenting, but I do appreciate your support(you KNOW that)...but theirs as well.  It was humbling to say the least.

Mike Capps is The Man and is desperately needed in the booth in Houston.

I've actually thought about this a bit.  Would it actually have been a good situation for Capps to be offered the position that DoRay currently fill?  And by that I mean, caddy for Milo?

No that I have any knowledge of the Astros' thought process, but Capps makes sense when the "Captain" finally gets the call from his son.

I think caddying for Milo would have been great it's MLB experience and an automatic leg up on the job when Milo leaves

I hope I'm wrong but based on what the Astros have done in the recent past, Mike Capps is way too professional to ever do pbp for the Astros. Maybe his prospects would improve if he wore a clown suit to the job interview...

Milo needs to be removed. Force him to retire or simply fire him.

I would guess they'd just promote DoRay to the full-time duo, rather than replace Milo with a third announcer. You think they'd do otherwise?

I think you underestimate how miserable the working with Milo experience can be.

DoRay need to go. They are horrible!

At least Milo has an appealing voice.  And there's something vaguely endearing about his schtick.  DoRay just seem like infomerical phonies.  I can't wait for them to say "What if I told you that this Astros team could score 10 runs a night, and keep your counters squeaky clean?"  Maybe that's a little too harsh, but I just don't connect with those guys.  They could be better by toning it down a little bit.

I think "connect" is a good description for the problem Astro fans have with this pair. There is not, IMHO, one single thing about them that is horrible but there is also nothing distinctive that "connects" them to the masses.

I disagree. I think there's plenty of horrible in DoRay, not the least of which is their earnest blandness. They spend huge amounts of time mired in pointless discussions of things that have only the most tangential connection to the game. The thing I found most infuriating of all was the injection of lectures on morality that came late in the season, particularly in the last series with the Phillies. I can't tell you how many times I ended up screaming at the radio and turning it off because of them. Mediocrity would be a step up.

My radio needs an exorcism.

Or get part of a street named after him and perpetuate the notion that broadcasters are "members" of the Hall of Fame.

Their blandness must have been obvious to anyone in the Astros' front office involved in their hiring decision a few years ago, so while they may sound like sandpaper to us, Pam & Co. probably see nothing wrong with them. In other words, we're probably stuck with them unless and until they get caught committing a crime or saying something out of bounds.

We need to get their photos to the resident PHotoShop master, posthaste.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I'm quite sure they were in Florida Thursday night jamming sticks in Tiger's spokes. That ought to be enough.
