ST: Astros and Indians, 3/6/08
« on: March 06, 2008, 01:24:39 pm »
Coming in late, but from what I gather:

- Sabathia went 9 up, 9 down on the Astros;
- Grady Sizemore is very, very, good;
- The Indians struggled with Woody's breaking stuff but teed off on his fastball.

Through 3 innings - Indians 6, Astros 0.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Started a parallel PBP but removed it as I have to leave shortly.

Williams went 2.2 innings giving up 1 run 3 hits 1 walk through 2 but got roughed up a bit in the 3rd.  Would've pitched out of trouble but didn't get two calls (the 2nd apparently really POed Woody).  Gervacio came in and allowed a hit (but eventually got out of the inning) which allowed 2 of Woodys baserunners to score (Williams tagged with 5 runs total).

Astros are hitless (and walk-less) through 3 with 3 Ks.  Towles was the last batter in the 3rd and on walking out of the box was 'screamed at' by the home plate umpire.  Coop had to get into the mix and 'break it up.'  Announcers speculated that the altercation must have been carry over from something Towles said to the HPU while Woody was pitching and didn't get the two calls (as they noticed nothing in Towles at bat that would have led to the 'altercation').  They noted it was a good move by the rook to stand up for his staff, and that it would 'be noticed' by Woody, Oswalt, etc.
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

Any word on who the ump is?
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

I'd like to think that this is the type of thing coming from Coach Ausmus.

I'd recon thats correct, but still good to hear the rook stepping up!  Looks like the Astros 1-5 (sans Lee, who is at the livestock show I think) are picking it up.  Just scored 4 in the bottom of the 4th with 5 straight hit (6 total).

HP: Jeff Nelson.

Nelson is an arrogant ass who prides himself on blowing calls on a regular basis.  I know that this describes a big percentage of major league umps, but there you have it.

Tejada bobbles a sure DP ball that would have closed the inning, runner safe at first.

We have been so spoiled by Everett.

Towles singles, steals a base and later scores from 3rd on a wild pitch.  Backe still pitching in the 6th.

Are you watching or listening to the game?  How is Backe doing?

Listening, so can't tell.  He just gave up a 2 run shot on a pitch he 'just missed' his spot on.  He had a good defensive play on a ball at the beginning of the inning (presumably trying to keep the ball out of Tejada's mitt - JK).  The grocer is in the booth talking with Milo right now - just banter though...

Another run just scored on a shot past Berkman.  All 3 runs off Backe coming with 2 outs.

I'm so glad I can't listen right now.

Milo's informed us about 3 times that "Braun" is in CF.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

They just noted Backe's been getting a lot of 1st pitch strikes, but having trouble getting that 3rd strike.  Just let another run score on a well hit ball.  Backe just struck out a batter for out 3, but allowed 4 runs with 2 out.

Bottom of the 6th, Indians 10, Astros 5.

I have to run - go Astros!
