But for the inclusion of "Tom" in the opening to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, I'd have presumed Twain'd been sitting behind home plate at MMPUS watching JR's approach at the plate.
"The boy with fair hair lowered himself down the last few feet of rock and began to pick his way towards the lagoon."
Golding's description of the boy in Lord of the Flies could as well described Gunther's descent into madness from chasing the ever-elusive slider, down and away (or alternatively, perhaps the descent to the lagoon may reflect his inability to make it to the hot tub unscathed).
