Important Dates 2018-2019 Offseason
« on: October 27, 2018, 02:59:49 pm »
Some of the following dates are keyed off when the WS ends. I've assumed the series goes to six games and will revise this accordingly if it ends up going five or seven games.

  • Oct. 31--free agency begins:
    • Marwin (Boras client)
    • Morton
    • Maldonado (Boras client)
    • Keuchel (Boras client)
    • Sipp
    • Gattis
    • McCann
  • Nov. 4--deadline for making a qualifying offer (QO) of $17.9MM to a team's own free agents:
    • Marwin
    • Morton
    • Keuchel
  • Nov. 6--GM meetings begin.
  • Nov. 14--deadline for a player to accept/reject QO. For each QO not accepted, Astros will receive a draft pick prior to the beginning of the 3rd round of the 2019 draft.
  • Nov. 20--date rosters must be locked down for purposes of the Rule 5 draft.
  • Nov. 30--non-tender deadline for arb-eligible players.
  • Dec. 10--winter meetings begin.
  • Dec. 13--Rule 5 draft.
  • Feb. 14--pitchers & catchers report.

This should get pinned.

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

  • Jan. 11--Arbitration exchange day — the date on which teams and players must exchange filing numbers for arbitration. Hearings, if necessary, typically begin in early February.

I looked at  a number of different articles on that issue but this one from Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com written two weeks ago is the one I relied most heavily on:

6 of the 7 players given qualifying offers turned them down (including Grandal and of course Keuchel). Only Hyun-Jin Ryu of the Dodgers accepted.
