So 'splain please. Crystal Palace is apparently safe from relegation, and it may have been the best afternoon of your sporting year, but for the ignorant, what happened?
On the road to Everton: a team then sitting 4th in the league (which qualifies for a Champions League berth), on a 7-game winning streak overall AND a 9-game winning streak at home. With so few games left, they needed the win to help cement their CL place but, instead got jumped by a Palace team that is hotter than Hansel right now.
The win for Palace was not really expected by anyone. Especially, it seems, Everton, who changed their lineup to load up on attacking talent in an effort to break down Palace's vaunted, stifling defense - but forgot that they might have to play some defense themselves. Palace went 1-0 up quite quickly, and 2-0 just after the halftime break during which Everton tweaked their lineup. They tweaked some more after the 2nd goal and got it back to 2-1 before we added a 3rd to ice the game. They got it to 3-2 with 4 minutes to play - then the ref added on 6 (six!) minutes for stoppages. Palace saw out the remaining time quite comfortably.
