Martes starts with three balls.
Everyone's talking, few of them know

No surprise that fox announcers are belittling scientific evidence about the changes to the baseball as fake news espoused by "some guys on the interwebs," a group that includes Chris Archer among many.

I don't get the resistance to the idea that the balls have changed. Why is it so hard to believe?

According to what I've read and listened to the ball has clearly changed, but the changes are still within the allowable parameters of the ball as stipulated by the MLB.  Studies have shown that balls hit at the same angle and velocity will vary by roughly 40 ft of distance traveled within those parameters at the extremes. The changes observed in the current ball are not that great but do have a material effect. As a former pitcher, I would hate than the "new" balls reportedly have reduced seam height.

To answer your question, no. Managers don't call pitches at the Major League level. They do call for pitchouts, throws to first, defensive alignments, shifts, bunt defense, etc so that's likely what you're seeing.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

To answer your question, no. Managers don't call pitches at the Major League level. They do call for pitchouts, throws to first, defensive alignments, shifts, bunt defense, etc so that's likely what you're seeing.

I guess a better framed question would be does he ever call any pitches beyond pitchouts, throw overs and intentional walks.

Possibly. He might call a pitch in a certain situation, but it would be a rare exception.

Well, I mean, a small percentage of managers call pitches to the plate in certain situations. I just wonder if AJ is one of them.

I don't know AJ's particular fancy on that. I would guess he does on rare occasions.

What a game. This team sure is fun to watch. Gardner did screw up but the Astros had to be perfect to take advantage. From Reddick cutting the shot to left off and getting it in quickly to Correa and he with the quick turn and flick throw. Just wow.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

I wish you would comment more during the games. Perhaps the conversation would be more about baseball and less about cocksucking. I know I would enjoy your baseball insight more than your post game criticism about the gamezone.
