Anyone viewing in Austin, I'm at Pinthouse Burnet, and will stay here until my instincts tell me to leave.

I got my lucky shoes and my lucky hat on, and I’m wearing my Altuve jersey. Let’s go boys!

Strap on!

Anybody know who’s pitching?

I'm forgoing the TV douchebags in favor of Ford and Sparky. Hope the delay isn't too bad.

No matter how young you are, you can still have a heart attack and a stroke simultaneously.

What is the likelihood this game will wrap up inside 4 hours? I have a plane I gotta catch.

Cole just made one of the best young hitters in the game look bad on three, well-located fastballs. Impressive.

Cole not fucking around with Rendon and Soto.

Bregman also goes 0-2, slider is in the dirt, Springer reaches 3rd on the WP, count 1-2, next pitch is low 2-2, Ks swinging in front of a changeup, Altuve steals 2nd

Agreed. For me, he is the most underrated hitter in the Astros’ lineup. Everyone knows Altuve and Bregman can hit anyone hard, but Yuli has proven he can do the same in the postseason.

Mr. National hits one out.

Didn't see that in the script.

That pitch was center-cut...

Wasn't in Cole's script either I don't think

I wonder how a knuckleballer would do in this day and age..

Wasn't in Cole's script either I don't think

Kurt Suzuki looks like Toshiro Mifune.

Alright, offense, let’s get that run back.

Yuli has become the defensive gem that Bagwell was at first. He's been a gem to me to a long time.

Top 2
Kendrick grounds out 6-3 (Yuli pulled off bag but applied the tag)
Cabrera pops out to Correa behind the mound
Zimmerman homers to center; Cole knew it immediately
Suzuki ahead 2-0, then 2-2, 3-2, fouls a FB, greyhounds deep in the hole, backhanded by Correa, throw pulls Yuli, Suzuki ruled out for avoiding the tag out of the baseline

Maldonado quickly 0-2, flies out F9
Reddick ahead 2-0, fouls a FB 2-1, takes a ball inside 3-1, fouls a breaking ball 3-2, pops out to Turner in shallow center
Springer misses a change, takes a FB 0-2, takes a FB way outside 1-2, a change is low 2-2, FB outside again 3-2, fooled by a change for the backwards K

Comments from pundits have less than nothing to do with what's going on on the field. You can be superstitious all you want when you are playing a game. But to suggest that comments from a pundit have any effect on what happens in a game is pathetically ignorant.

Turner chops out 5-3
Eaton quickly 0-2, takes 99 near his eyes 1-2, lines a single to left just past a diving Bregman
Rendon misses a FB, takes a curve for strike 2, checks on a breaking ball 1-2, takes a FB outside, snap throw to first is just late, fouls a FB to the right side, fouls another FB 2-2, flies out to Springer F8

one thing I really miss about not being at the game is I get to see the outfielders react to the ball right away. I get to hear them cry yard before they really show where the ball was hit.

Bottom 4
Altuve flies out F9
Brantley late on a FB 0-1, misses a high cutter (?), fouls a high FB 0-2, checks 1-2, laces a cutter for a single to RF
Bregman takes a FB that dots the corner 0-1, takes a FB on the inside corner 0-2, Ks swinging on a high FB out of the zone
Gurriel takes FB low 1-0, another is high 2-0, pops to shallow center, too far a run for CF Robles to field it; Brantley held at 3rd, Yuli at 2nd with a double; ump's asked if Pettis assisted Brantley's stop; he didn't

Maldonado fouls a bunt attempt 0-1, does it again 0-2, takes a ball in the dirt 1-2, FB away 2-2, change is low 3-2, flies out to deep left
Reddick fouls a FB, he says bat contacted the catcher's glove (it did) but can't be reviewed 0-1, change is outside 1-1, FB outside 2-1, pops out to shallow left; missed a good one and knows it
Springer 2-0, takes a center cut FB for a strike 2-1, FB outside 3-1, misses a change and falls down 3-2, wails on a low change
Altuve pops an off speed pitch foul 0-1, cutter outside 1-1, misses a middle middle FB 1-2, change is low 2-2, chops fouls down 3rd base line, FB outside 3-2, fouls a breaking ball 3-2,

Playing catch up against a team that has gotten to the WS totally rested is a recipe for disaster.

Also, that missed catcher’s interference cost at least a run. Springer would’ve walked to load the bases, Altuve’s groundout would have scored a run, and it’d be 2nd and 3rd 2 outs for Brantley.

As disappointing as Cole's outing has been, the offense has had so many opportunities to plate runs this game and has consistently come up empty. I hate that Cole will be the story.
He blew the lead in a pretty big fucking way. But let's hope he isn't the story.

But it could easily be 5-5 or an Astros lead.

SPRINGER DINGER!!!

not as far as Soto's, but I'll take it.
I guess they really do want the Nat's bullpen.

Rainey (RHP) pitching
Springer homers over the pump in left center
Altuve looks at 100 for a strike 0-1, same for 98 0-2, lays off slider away 1-2, Ks swinging on a slider away
Brantley ahead 2-0, 3-0, walks
Bregman takes a slider down 1-0, and another 2-0, and another 3-0, FB is in 3-1, FB dots the inside corner 3-2, fouls a FB, walks; Brantley to 2nd
Martinez calls for Hudson (RHP)
Gurriel fouls 0-1, FB is outside 1-1, late and fouls a FB 1-2, pops out to Cabrera on a high slider
Correa hits an infield single deep in the hole at short, Bregman easily safe at 2nd

He swung through a totally hittable pitch as well.

Yordan's insistence at expanding the zone is absolutely infuriating.

Harris on the bump
-
Don't lose sight that the Astros managed to turn the lineup over.
8, 9, 1 due up
-
Harris means AJ thinks they can still take this game.
-
of course, they can still win, it's only a two run lead, but they have to plate the runners.
-
Yordan's troubles have been in three areas:
1. Not swinging at the first pitch -- even if its down the middle
2. When he has swung at a hittable pitch -- he's not got around on it - he's been late (hands)
3. When he gets down in the count - he expands his zone and swings at some wild shit
-
Odds on Soto getting the cycle tonight?

Even when he ws going well he fouled off hittable pitches way too much.

It feeds off of itself, though. If he wasn't always so behind in the count, he wouldn't have to chase/guess/be late.

Yordan just failed in a big spot, but he’s had an encouraging night at the plate. Two singles and a walk before that appearance.

FWIW, I think Yordan's big problem is the long season. I think he's tired. People used to talk about that. Maybe it isn't true anymore.

Very well could be... He has done his fair share of yard work this season.
Have no basis for this, but watching from afar --- just think he would be so effective if swung at the first pitch inside fastball around his knees. And then, he could make the adjustment on the outside of the plate --- use the Crawford Boxes as his Bitch.....
Anyhow, tonight has been better.

I'm not sure what the fuck Bregman is up there looking for. That 2-1 92mph fastball right down the middle should have been crushed. Instead he has to swing at a 94mph pitchers pitch and strikes out. I love Bregman but fuck man, the whole postseason he just seems to want to walk rather than hit.

The ball kicked right to the center fielder, so probably not. Still no excuse for not running all out...

Alan Porter must have a hard on for Bregman. His zone has been solid except for Alex. He's called 5 off the plate strikes on him.

Yes, he does. If you go back and look at the replay, by the time the ball is fielded by the cutoff man on the first base side of second, George is already almost a third of the way PAST second base, stopped running and is back into hopping/skipping mode. Based on where he was when the cutoff man fields the ball, if he is running out of the box, it is a standup triple and he probably scores the tying run on the next fly out.
This single incident didn’t cost us the game, but was just one more thing that kept us from winning.

Springer is dead meat if he tries for 3B. Tucker had to hold up at 2B, and I was wondering if he was even going to score. Springer would have had to slow up approaching 2B anyway. It's possible the Nats misplay the throw and Springer makes it to 3B, but you don't make that out at 3B.

I don't see why DHing would make such a big difference. He's waking up and going to work and running the bases (or not). He also did play in the field quite a bit this year.

Probably not but I hate that shit. He do that....the ball better be out of the park.
I think that he thought, "either it's out or I'm out." If Eaton goes all the way to the wall instead of a step short and leaping he probably catches it.
