Wonder if Trout has ever spent much time with Fondlin' Jared Fogel as a result of their work for Subway.

Ump decides to call strike 3 against springer on the exact same location of pitch that he called a ball 2 times prior in the at bat.

B1:

Altuve lines one deep in the LCF gap, but Victorino with a running over the shoulder catch
Springer...3-0...swings through the 84 mph heater for strike two...and is called out on ball four
Correa...late on that 83 mph "fastball" right down the middle...lines one off the LF wall for a single, tries to stretch it and is about half way when the ball gets to second base, so he just stops and is tagged out.

No score after 1

You probably don't remember, but the Astros used to have a guy named Bagwell who was pretty good as a rookie.  Won an award or something forit.

I was born that year. My first memories of bags is from around 96 or 97. Best rookies I remember are oswalt and berkman.

How does correa compare in your mind to bags from 91?

Different type of players, and obviously different positions.  He's more advanced at the same age as Bagwell, as has been pointed out, Bagwell was several years older.  Correa has more speed and will probably hit for a higher average, though Bagwell had more raw power.

And I'm not really trying to compare them, just pointing out another time the Astros had  top notch rookie.

I don't know if he does. Not to take anything away from McCullers but the Astros have had a few promising rookie pitchers that accomplished as much or more in their ronokie season. Richard, Dierker, Tom Griffin was very promising before his arm problems. Bagwell and Correa are on different tiers.

Over the past couple of weeks and completely without warning mlb.tv has been sucking rancid rhino cock. All of my other streaming platforms work great, including (especially) NFL's Gamepass.

MLB.tv has been sucking on and off all year for me.  It's by far been the worst year ever for me.   I may just do the Extra Innings thing with Comcast next year.

Rancid Rhino Cock?  I saw them back at the old Maceba Theater in 1986.

Worked pretty good for me this year.  I don't watch it all the time, but have had no trouble this year on extended trips to California, Tennessee and Thailand.

Yeah, they opened for the Indigo Girls, right?

Did you ever see a show there? I would have liked to have but I'd split town by the time that joint was hosting shows. I did see a few at the Tower Theater.

B8:

Wesley Wright in to pitch...

Rasmus grounds out 3-1
Gattis pops out F4
Valbuena...full count...draws a 2-out walk
Castro grounds out 3-1

To the 9th...6-1 Astros

That's odd.  I have tried it on different devices, mainly the PS4 and the Apple TV.  Both of them tend to suck (at times.  sometimes it's fine).  Maybe it's just something in my area.  But Netflix and Hulu are perfect.  No problems there.

Lots of them.  That was back in my roadie days.  Everyone from New Order to Peter Murphy to  Jeffrey Osborne.  Worked a Slayer show there in about 1988 when the audience set the seats on fire.

I saw Dream Theater for the first time at the Tower.

Worked fine on my iPad, even internationally.  I've watched some on Roku, no problems.

I'm watching mlb.tv on the web and it is mostly good but has buffering problems every once in a while and when it comes back the video is degraded.   It is often worse on Roku.   And I don't have a slouch internet service.   I think they just didn't anticipate the growth of the media this year.

And a couple of hits now, after Brownie reminds us that the Astros scored 5 runs with 2 out, down to their last strike in the 9th...

Fields in...

Pujols flies out F8
Cron ...full count...strikes out swinging
Freese doubles to deep LCF
Murphy, pinch hitting for Victorino, singles to CF, Freese scores
Perez...full count...walks

That's it for Fields, Perez in

Cowgill, pinch hitting for someone...single to RF...Murphy to 3B, Perez to 2B...but Perez keeps going to 3B...two runners at 3B, but the Astros fuck it up and Murphy scores...Astros challenge, but they're gonna lose...yep, safe

That's it for Perez, Gregerson in

Aybar grounds out 4-3

Astros win!!!

Man, I have no idea what's out there these days. I guess the Warehouse would be about the same size, but the Maceba had actual theater seating, it wasn't a club or anything.  It was a little bigger than #s and more of a "concert" feel.

Has there ever been a better/more promising rookie than correa in an astros uniform? I'm only 24 so take this with a grain of salt. He's the best rookie by far I've seen, maybe on any team. Maybe one of you more seasoned vets can come up with other options?

I'll lay a name on you from the distant past: Cesar Cedeno. When that kid came up, he was dripping wet with talent.

I don't have specific memories of Cesar Cedeño as a rookie but he was pretty fucking good.

I guess if you have to go back nearly 50 years to find someone that sort of makes the point.

I remember Cedeno well. Those first two years, he was lights out good. A five tool player.

Cedeno was terrible when he first came up at 19. I remember making one of my famous predictions to Mark's mom during a game at the Dome: the Astros have ruined him by bringing him up too soon. HA!

I checked out his BR page today.  He was solid at 19.  Hit .310/.340/.451 in 90 games (Correa is currently hitting .279/.345/.507 in 88 games at age 20).  Finished 4th in Rookie of the Year voting.  Improved at 20 and then took off at 21.  4 straight Gold Gloves, All Star 3 of the 4 years.  Finished 6th in MVP voting in 72, 11th in 73, 16th in 74 and 25th in 76.  Never had a great year after that but never had a really bad year either.  Finished 17 year career with a .285/.347/.443 slash line.  Wonder what his power stats would have looked like in MMP instead of the Dome.

I said "when he first came up" and I recounted the story to show how wrong I was. he struck out a lot early on but then settled in.
