Game 3 from the bleachers
« on: October 28, 2017, 09:13:18 am »
I hope the Yuli business doesn't become the main talking point of a great fighting win...  how about some reports from people who were there, how was it?

I dreamed of my first World Series game most of my life. It was great.

Seeing JJ Watt and Craig Biggio hang out at the pregame was wonderful. Two genuinely giving Houstonians. Then I realized that Jose Altuve has the opportunity to become more beloved than either of them.

I was slightly disappointed in the player introductions... I expected something more than doing exactly what they did for opening day.

Keep your celebrities, LA. We’ll use a national guard servicewoman and a firefighter for our singing.

The second inning changed the entire dynamic of the stadium. Much less tension present even as we stranded a small army on the base paths.

Security sure fooled us for the 9th inning by opening the bullpen door. I was disappointed until I saw Peacock actually come back to the mound.

Overall, the intensity level didn’t come close to ALCS Game 7.

The Yuli story will be the only story that comes out of this World Series.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Great crowd again, but so far, the intensity of Games 6 and 7 against NYY were tops.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Very unfortunate. There are folks that don't really care about Yuli's apology or the fact that he is not only a good baseball player but a man with excellent  character.  The focus will be on the condemnation of Yuli, not the heartfelt apology he gave nor will it focus on the hard work, dedication, and success of the Astros and Dodgers. It is sad commentary that Yuli could be defined for one moment in his life. Don't think quite a few people really give a damn about his apology or the really good things Yuli has accomplished. I hope the team rallies around him and wins the World Series.

Agree 100%. I'm sure Yuli is contrite, but you can't do that in this day and age, and I'm sure he'll be disciplined. The shame will be the people who will not be able to let it go and make sure it dominates the headlines.

Game 7 in the ALCS was the most intense game watching experience I've ever had. Only Game 6 in 1986 comes close, and I was listening to that one in the radio. I'm sure being there live elevated that experience, but watching LMJ was the reason I've loved baseball for 50 years.

On a side note, I'm in Seattle and watched the game at a local sports bar. The place was full of Astros fans and it was loud. There were a handful of people rooting for the Dodgers and they were shocked to see a bar full of Astros fans.  Several people asked us what in the world is the deal with the army of Astros fans that have invaded Seattle this weekend, and we said we were all here for the Texans/Seahawks game on Sunday, aren't they used to seeing opposing fans on game weekends. Everyone said no, not like this. They've never seen so many opposing football fans travel like this. We promised to behave, though we could not commit to being quiet.

This story was several headlines down in CNNs secondary story section (the OKC thunder plane getting a dent was listed higher).   So at least first thing this AM it wasn't the outrage du jour.  That can of course change.

Agree with the sentiment that Yuli needs to apologize,  sincerely.   He will be at the mercy of those outraged.  Just remember,  America loves a sinner.

Beyond that,  whatever happens as far as punishment, so be it. My rooting interest is obvious,  and I don't like organizations grandstanding,  but don't do offensive/stupid shit and it won't be an issue.

I read this from an insensitive racist Dodger fan in a comments section: "Yu has to be partly to blame. He did give up the homer. If you don't want to be made fun of, get people out."

It made me laugh. Dodger fans are so horrible.
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it
Truth isn't easy, the easy part's shit

Makes sense, I expect the elimination / clinch prospect will amp it up some.
