Too bad. I liked Petit, but this was easy to see coming, between Lowrie signing, Torreyes being added to the 40-man, and Sclafani's excellent year and AFL appearance. The latter two will likely compete for a future super-utility role. I'm assuming for now that Marwin is the middle IF backup, and Villar gets another season in AAA to try and salvage his chances at playing SS for a MLB team - probably not the Astros.

Baseball is a numbers game. Petit will catch on as a utility player on some club.

Per MLB Transactions page (http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/transactions/#month=12&year=2014&team_id=117): apparently cleared waivers and has been assigned to Fresno.

But he can choose to become a free agent.

Astros announce via twitter that Petit accepted assignment and he along with recently outrighted Darin Downs will be NRIs.
