Astros scalped in Grapefruit opener, 13-2
« on: March 02, 2007, 11:51:49 am »
The Tribe scored early and often in the spring opener at Winter Haven, defeating the Astros 13-2.
Woody Williams started and pitched two innings, followed by Moehler, Gutierrez, Holdzkom, Randolph, and Walker.

"I felt good," Woody said after striking out two, but allowing two runs and three hits. "I do feel better day by day and intend to be ready when the season starts. I'd prefer to have not given up any hits or runs, but I learned a long time ago to just get your work in during the spring."

The Astros managed only five hits. Jason Lane had a solo homer.

Notes: Indians 88 year old Hall of Famer Bob Feller, warming up along the sideline, got the biggest ovation in pregame introductions.

Two hours after the game, the Chain of Lakes complex was surrounded by Winter Haven police and Polk County sheriff's deputies, who were searching for a suspect in a bank robbery committed several blocks away.

Spring home opener today at 12:05 CST against the Tigers.
"Baseball is simply a better game without the DH. "
