Hudson and Hicks in the GZ tonight.
I will be in and out. Have conference calls from 9-midnight. And making soup for Mrs. Hawk. Tonight will be a grind.
-
Due to my usual state of being gripped with fear of losing, it was somewhat of a shock to hear Smoltz talking about how the Yankees must win at least one of these games just to get back to Houston. I hope they will be pressing like fuck tonight because they won’t want to face JV tomorrow needing to win to stay alive.
I hope Greinke can keep them quiet for a while to ramp up the pressure. I also hope that the Astros will wait on Tanaka and take him the other way (NTTAWWTJ to give Zack something to work with.

Oh look! An Astro trying to pull Tanaka and making an out.

The ball really seemed to carry to RF even with weak contact off Altuve’s bat.

Nice job, Brantley. Let’s work this slop-throwing scrub and get into their bullpen.
-
T1:
Springer...who is hitting .083 this series...lines out to SS in the shift. Robbed.
Altuve flies out to RF...one handed half swing went almost to the track
Brantley...takes two floating meatballs down the center...evens the count at 2-2...works it full...fouling off pitches...walks
Bregman takes strike one four inches off the plate...pops up F6
No score

Blue doesn’t look to have a big zone tonight, at least for Greinke*.
* Haven’t seen enough of Tanaka yet to suggest he’s calling it differently for him.

Yep. He had to chase it a long way.

A couple of walks and a bloop single...Yankees have the bases loaded, two out...

Greinke really struggling to throw strikes.

Third walk of the inning plates a run...1-0...bases still juiced. Greinke a wreck.

Whew! Peacock was warming.
-
B1:
LeMahieu...3-0...walks
Judge lines to SS...Correa knocks it down and it trickles away, but LeMahieu had to freeze, so Correa runs it down and throws out LeMahieu at 2B...Score it a 6-4 FC
Hicks pops one to shallow RCF...Correa out and almost gets there, but it finds some grass...Judge to 2B...easy pop out on any other night
Torres pops to 1B...IFR in effect
Judge steals 3B, Hicks steals 2B
Encarnacion...full up...walks
Gardner...3-0...walks...Judge scores, Hicks to 3B, Encarnacion to 2B
Sanchez...0-2...strikes out swinging
But the Yankees get a run on a bloop and three free passes. Lead 1-0
-
The 0-1 pitch to Sanchez was interesting, but Greinke averted disaster for now.

Cy Tanaka is back.
He's throwing the same puss up there that Greinke is. Difference is the Yankees have laid off the shit 3-1 sliders in the dirt.
-
Gameday says the wind is 16 mph to RF. Have they given more info on the broadcast?
Yes. They said on the broadcast that the winds are swirling in the stadium and that the balls are actually dying to center and right field but heading out to left field rather briskly. They also mentioned that pitchers may struggle as there is a lot of wind in the 60’-6” pitching channel.
-

Astros got fucked there. Dumbass fan reaches out and LeMahieu gets 2B, even though he's stopped at 1B.

The fan seemed to reach over the wall into the field of play when he touched it. Wouldn’t that make it a dead ball and a single, not a ground rule double?

It makes it spectator interference, and it's not an automatic double. The umps place runners where they think they'd have reached if there were no interference. LeMahieu had already stopped at 1B.
As James strikes out Judge to end the inning.

Uuuuuughhhh. Sanchez launches 2-1 pitch over the left field wall.
Urshela strikes out swinging. 1 down.
Gregorius pops to Bregman in foul territory. 2 away.
LeMahieu hits ground rule double to right. Bounces out of a fan’s free hand

You don't know that. And it's irrelevant anyway. The fan reached over the wall into the field of play and touched the ball. It's dead at that point and the runner should have been made to stay at 1B.

I posted this on April 10. I re-post it solely as a reaction to tonight's game and with full understanding that the series is completely in play.
I don't carry around the deep reserves of Yankee hate that some of you guys not unreasonably do, but I'm on board hoping they lose 100 games this year and I'll tell you why. I would like to think I have an appropriate level of respect for the game. Because of that, it offends me deeply that the Yankees seem to believe that they can assemble a competitive team by putting together a lineup of giant goons who can crush home runs and a bullpen the back of which features a bunch of guys who throw 100 miles per hour. I don't think defense registers even as an afterthought to these idiots. This team's defensive ineptitude offends me more than it brings me joy at the resulting failures. It's not surprising, I don't suppose. They sent Derek Jeter out to play shortstop for 20 years. For any number of those years the best shortstop in baseball played third base right next to him, so they obviously have never cared all that much about defense. But this is pretty bad.
It's not the worst defensive team I've ever seen, but they obviously don't care at all, and that pisses me off.

See that Stanton will be DH today, replacing Encarnacion. Not a bad move-they have to do something.
They might try fielding the ball before it stops rolling.

I’m fine with their defense just the way it is.

Miserable life forms.
Just another day in the Bronx.

Just another day in the Bronx.
So much fun watching the fans-beating on the walls, dismayed looks. I've been listening to WFAN (NYC) all day-they have given up hope and just hope to not lose tonight. I have to say that both the fans and hosts all say that the Astros are the better team-no excuses about bad luck on their part.

Your ignoring them is not. STFU tonight, and pay attention to the posters. The very next inning after your comment, Greinke came out.
Comments on a fan board have less than nothing to do with what's going on on the field. You can be superstitious all you want when you are playing a game. But to suggest that comments on a fan board have any effect on what happens in a game is pathetically ignorant.

About twelve people told you the same thing, which was STFU. Take your “pathetically ignorant” arrogance, and go fuck yourself.

Fuck off Jim. You know what I said was true.

What you’re not realizing is that it doesn’t matter whether it has an effect or not. If you take a shit in the middle of a group of friends then they’re going to tell you you’re an asshole. Period.

What is true is you need to take your arrogance elsewhere and STFU.

You guys both need to drop it.

and you need to move along and look for tickets. Ty and I have this.

Walk away Jim. It’s done.
