Altuve hit the shit out of that ball, but it was on one hop right at Aybar.
-
Glad we're making this twiddledick look like Cy Fucking Young so far. STOP POPPING EVERYTHING UP!

if they are making any contact the first time through the order, they'll knock him out the second time through
-
Shit. Carter just whiffed at that double play ball. I assume Correa will get the error, but it should be on Carter.

No error if an out is made and runners didn't move up
-
I didn't think they charged errors for not getting a DP.
-
Tapatalk needs a review feature when a post happens while I'm typing.
-
Jesus. When it is going to stop being acceptable to call insane not close pitches for punchouts on rookies? Correa just took one that was 6 inches inside and maybe a little down and got rung up on it.
-
More and more Lowrie looking like a first baseman.

DH
-
The fuck was wrong with that pitch?
-
Well I'll say this for him: if McCullers is gonna walk someone, he doesn't fuck around.
-
Wow Preston, that was about the worst footwork I've ever seen on a fly ball. Pujols should've been out by 5 feet if you'dve had ANY momentum behind that throw.
-

A runner reaching base on a missed throw is certainly cause for crediting an error.

Nope, you cannot be charged an error if a force out is recorded and no runner was able to advance because of it. You can throw the relay over home plate and not be charged an error. You can bounce a throw off Carter's skull into right field, if the runner doesn't advance, no error
-
So the MiLs hit this pitcher around a bit says Ashby. Something about him reminds me of Bumgarner. The delivery for sure.
-
Fucking Carter. SWING THE FUCKING BAT! STOP TAKING FUCKING STRIKE 3!
-
Jeebus Carter...swing the fucking bat!!!

Says who? Another common misconception that you can't be charged an error if you get an out on the play. or you can't "assume the double play".
Rule 9.12(d) Comment: When a fielder muffs a thrown ball
that, if held, would have completed a double play or triple play,
the official scorer shall charge an error to the fielder who drops
the ball and credit an assist to the fielder who made the throw.
Carter can absolutely be charged an error on that.

He deserved one. Oddly I think scorers are sometimes reluctant to give an error if the fielder does not touch the ball. He did not drop it.

The rules of scoring address that too. A fielder doesn't have to touch a ball to be charged an error. I understand that no error was charged on that play, but one absolutely could have and should have been.

Was referring to Correa. Correa can not make an error on the play if the runner doesn't advance.
Curious side note though. What constitutes a "muff" Can an untouched ball be "muff"ed?

Of course it can. The rules refer to a "muff" all the time in terms of a ball that is just missed and hits the ground.
-
Correa hit the shit out of that ball. Ties it up against this scrub.
-
Tucker and Rasmus can't make contact. Ugh.
-
My XM is messed up (or maybe they're blocking it from work) but I like what Gameday is showing me at the moment...
-
I fucking hate that fucking shift on every fucking hitter!
-
Motherfucker!!! Again that fucking shift!!!
-
I am so ready to end the Chris Carter Era.
-
I am so ready to end the Chris Carter Era.
I was until I wasn't, and am now until I'm not again...
-
Santana is never going to hit a pitch below his letters. Ever.
-
I was until I wasn't, and am now until I'm not again...
I'm just done with him. Time to move on. Yes, he can occassionally hit a home run. Good for him. I still have no use for him.
-

So..who's your preferred first baseman, then? Singleton, Lowrie, or someone else?
-

Yes.
-
Last I saw the bases were loaded and Pujols was up. No Sipp is pitching in the 8th and it's still 1-1. What happened?

I think the count went full before Pujols flyed out to Santana on the warning track.

Thanks. That sounds like it was nerve rattling.
-

A whiff would have been better, but the fly out will still make my day.
-
Unfuckingbelievable.
Tucker leads off the 9th with a single. Springer pinch running, and is picked off before the next pitch. So Springer is not longer an option to pinch hit.
-

What a stupid, brain-dead fucking play by Springer.
-
My own personal hell would be an Astros game that is delayed forever on an umpire review with nothing but Alan Ashby to fill the dead air. This is excruciating.
-
Now Gattis hits one in the corner, jogs into 2B and is thrown out.
-
Astros have sent two men to the plate, have two hits, and don't have a baserunner.
-
Now Gattis hits one in the corner, jogs into 2B and is thrown out.
What a fucking disaster of an inning.
-
What a fucking disaster of an inning.
Fuck you, Carter. Fuck you and your constant bullshit half swings at garbage. You are the fucking anti-clutch.
-
And Carter whiffs on three pitches in the dirt. At least they cleared his spot in the order this inning.
-
Fuck you, Carter. Fuck you and your constant bullshit half swings at garbage. You are the fucking anti-clutch.
I would rather have Neshek hit in that situation. I'm dead serious.
-
Not scoring in the 9th sucks on the road. Now you have to get AT LEAST six more outs to win this game.
-
Not going to win many games making those kind of mistakes.
-
I love neshek
-
If the Astros don't mind having a 5'6" first baseman, there is one ready and available.
-
Is Marwin that much faster than Valbuena?
-
FOR FUCK'S SAKE! STOP TWIDDLEDICKING OUTS AWAY ON THE BASEPATHS!
-
Marwin steals 2B, but overslides the bag and is out.
-
What a cluster fuck.
-
This is just pathetic.
-
Why was marwin even running there?
-
I don't know whose slide was worse, Gattis' or Marwin's.
-
Why was marwin even running there?
To get into scoring position to try to win the game. He had the bag stolen, but overslid
-
Springer's back to flailing wildly at everything
-
In case anyone is wondering...we're headed to the 13th, still tied at 1.
So much for this being a getaway day.
-
I didn't get home until the 9th, hope they don't plan on showing me a whole game
-

really shocked they made it unscathed out of the bottom of the 12th.
-
Sweet, a leadoff hit. Don't get picked off or thrown out trying to steal.
-
Marwin leadoff single, Santana up
FC - 1 down, Castro up
Fly out to center - 2down, Altuve up
and Ground out. Mid 13
-
They need Hannah and her horse on the golf broadcasts.
-
Thatcher in. We're down to the bottom of the bullpen barrel.
-
Can't imagine Ashby as a manager. Not even intrigued in the slightest.
Wow, Carter almost fucked that up.
-
Single and sacrifice put the winning run at 2B with one out.
-
Qualls in. I'm going to be optimistic.
-
Groundout moves runner to 3B.
Qualls in. Not sure who's left in the pen. Hernandez I suppose.
-
The old everyone shout out balk play. It failed.
-
And Qualls walks the banjo hitting Iannetta.
-
woof, failed to get Ianetta. not good
-
Fuck Qualls.
-
And Featherston, hitting .094 with a walk off single.
Qualls does not disappoint the home crowd.
-
And Qualls walks the banjo hitting Iannetta.
Where in the hell was that pitch. Looked right down the pipe to me...
-
fuck. Qualls hangs every other slider. Game over.
-
You're fucking kidding me. I *just* got home from work, turned on the TV, and saw Qualls throw the game-loser. FML.
-
Well that sucks
-
Where in the hell was that pitch. Looked right down the pipe to me...
Ball 4? It was clearly high out of the zone. After he had Iannetta down 0-2.
-
Qualls absolutely sucks.
-
When Ashby was prattling on about Featherston's .097 BA I knew we were doomed.
-
I don't understand why Carter was playing in on the grass. The walk off single was just a little looper that landed well on the infield dirt. If Carter is playing normal depth, it's an easy out.
-

I was thinking the same thing. Absolutely no reason to be that far in with 2 outs
-

He was positioned where he would be with less than two outs, as if he had to cut a run down at the plate.

My point exactly. Did he not know there were two outs?

You saw that with your heart, not your eyes.

He had to know. Everyone else was at normal depth.
-

Saw where he was or thinking he was out of position? Is that where you would have had the first baseman on that?
-

I did not pay attention to the alignment. I may be wrong, but I do not think the hit landed on the dirt.
ETA: if he was out of position, a coach should have backed him up.
-

Oh it did. I went back and verified multiple times. It landed about three or four feet inside the dirt, and it wasn't exactly smoked. I even got a screen grab of it, but since we don't allow pictures here (who made up that rule anyway?)...
Carter was a on the infield grass, just to the 2B side of the cutout. Perhaps that's where the scouting report on Featherston said he should be. I just found it odd that he was so far in with 2 outs.

That's an excellent idea for Ground Control.
