Interesting. It loads fine for me in IE as well.

Have you tried other browsers at all?

His one talent is reading lips in a Bronx accent.  He's hardly the next Bill Simmons.

He's entertaining, but that's about it. I don't get all the viritol being thrown at him here. He's just pumping out content based on what the national media is feeding everyone. If the original article had been a MLB sign stealing story instead of a hatchet job on the Astros, there likely would be evidence from other teams, or at least speculation.

Instead, the huge billboard on the onramp to the Internet that says in all caps "THE ASTROS CHEATED" makes it a little more understandable why that's what secondary media and entertainment monkeys are focusing on that.

Trump actually just a few minutes ago: “I don’t know him very well. I have not spoken to him much. This is not a man I know well. He seems like a nice guy though.”

I was only slightly being tongue in cheek.

Does it really shock you that a Rangers beat writer wants the Astros to be stripped of a rightfully earned World Series Championship?

Also, at this point, I’m hoping Jim Crane gets over his aversion to the luxury tax and is willing to do whatever it takes to build the best team possible for next season.  Then, I want the Astros to win the World Series and shove it up Manfred’s and the rest of MLB’s collective asses.

Then hold a celebratory parade with 10,000 trash can drummers leading the way.

Manfred is protecting the MLB brand. Ole Miss beat Alabama twice and the SEC and NCAA came down on the interlopers like a hailstorm. We're MLB interlopers, trespassing on the rightful territory of NY, Boston, and LA. What combination of fines, suspensions, and draft picks will this cost?

ALL OF THEM!

Any medical report they likely were to have received wouldn't have had the eventual diagnosis. They initially thought he had a problem with his pectoral muscle. Turns out after a more thorough examination he had a torn capsule in his right shoulder.

Shoulder issues are a bitch to diagnose pre-explosion.

I’m prepared. But fuck everyone who started saying the game or the series was over three innings ago.

I'm glad someone has faith the offense will show up for at least one home game.

I certainly don't.

This game has been a microcosm of every reason why the Astros won't win the world series so far.

Not tacking on.
Shitty at bats with RISP.
Verlander unable to get people out with 2 strikes.
Terrible approaches at the plate the moment they lose the lead.

Still time to get back in it, but holy fuck, what a frustrating 5 innings of baseball.

He has done this HR thing all year. It's not a surprise.

What's annoying is that the offense has done the score-in-the-first-and-then-go-to-sleep thing again, which they've also done with disappointing frequency this year.

100 percent agree, but this game should be tied still. Why throw a totally predictable and fat fastball to the one guy that can do that? Just fucking stupid.

Bucks pseudo crying yard unnecessarily added to the drama.

I lost the ball for half a second, and saw the fair signal and thought it somehow had gotten out for a half second because of Buck's inability to tell that was 20 feet short of the wall.

Bregman fizzled in the bases loaded AB, but he also tomahawked a ball right at an outfielder and lined out to Turner (the nice leaping grab).

Another flyball was fairly well hit.

Let's hope he keeps hitting the ball hard and has some land on the outfield grass. Preferably with runners on.

The slumbering Bregman farts, murmurs, and rolls over.

Will he wake up tonight? We can only hope.

I though last night’s HPU had a consistent zone.  It was a little generous on the edges too, which makes Cole’s struggles even more puzzling.  He did miss the catcher’s interference, though, about which I’m not sure if I’m more surprised that he missed it or that it’s not challengeable.

That alone might have been worth a run because it turned 1st & 2nd with 0 outs into 1st only and 1 out.

I'm still not sure how he missed it. Granted, it was quite loud in MMP, but he was looking squarely at it on the replay, and it was clear as day.

Not a ton to be taken from it, tried to piggy back on AJ a bit.  Will wait for the MLB process to play out and "hope we can put it behind us".  Still kinda sounds a bit like "sorry you were offended".  Writers have circled the wagons, have multiple witnesses supporting original article and all the Astros have given us is Taubman's statement.

Just a sincere sounding apology would be a huge step in the right direction.

Too many batters have taken turns this postseason to slump, especially with runners on.

It'll be the epitaph on this season if it doesn't get corrected.

Bregman and Alvarez are prime culprits.  The singles and the walk from Alvarez were certainly encouraging,  but at nut cuttin' time when a single would plate the go ahead run,  he fouls off a meaty 1 strike FB  then Ks swinging at a chin high heater.

Bregman was a total mess too.  He acknowledged as much postgame. He's gotta fix it.   And yes,  I know it's just that easy.

Springer waking up would certainly help get things going, but Jesus Christ Bregman has been horrific.

I think that Devinski is a good choice. He was much improved at the end of the season. He has playoff experience (but with poor results). Might Hinch be thinking he would be a good match up against Soto?

Devo's arm was ground to dust by the time the Astros make it to the World Series in 2017.

167
Torres covering second? Agreed (!) re Bracamonte’s presentation.

The OFers were very deep in a no doubles defense so anything Altuve hit had to be hard, high, and off the wall or over it to score Springer. When he hit it, my first thought was “that’s out,” then I saw it was headed toward the bullpen well. I was not certain till it hit the wall, and I hoped Springer was sprinting.

Torres, not Urshella.

Also of note, Springer was fucking FLYING, but was looking right at it, so he hit second base with his hands up in the air and started to trot.

I consider myself a pretty good fan but you provide a scouting report on the umps? Half of which I don't recognize the names? Ok.

Where are Doug Harvey and John Kibler? Jocko Conlan?

I'm by no means an expert on the umps, but I think I keep a little closer eye on them for the most part than most fans due to my interest when I was younger in being an umpire and my continued attention while being a baseball fan through my adult life.

Generally speaking, the less you recognise an umpire's name, the better they are. Once you get old enough to just have name recognition not for a specific incident, there's a reputation behind you from your overall work that can be fairly easily broken down, I think.

Doug Eddings is a good example of that. He's been around for a while. This is his first World Series, but he's been an overall consistent umpire throughout his career in my opinion. He definitely has a shorter temper than some, and has had a few notable confrontation, but if you're comparing his temper to someone like, say, Joe West, he's a pussycat comparably.

The rest of the crew is a solid mix of good older umps and some of the younger guys that have good reputations overall. There are definitely not any duds on this roster, which is fairly consistent with the WS crews for the past 5 years. I won't get in to a deep dive of the CS and DS crews, but the MLB has actually done a pretty solid job of keeping the total fucksticks away from the biggest spotlight. I'm sure we all remember Angel Hernandez's awesome ALDS performance(s) last year: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2018/10/10/under-fire-umpire-angel-hernandez-likely-done-mlb-playoffs-not-reason-you-think/

Here's the last 6 years of WS ump rosters:

Bracamonte later gave the ball to an MLB authenticator.

Outfield View of Jose Altuve's 2019 ALCS Winning Walk-off Homerun

This might be my favorite thing so far.

Gregorious knew it was gone off the bat (unlike me). Urshela went to cover second but knew it was gone after about a step and a half.

Even from that far out, the look of "What the fucking fuck just happened?" is obvious on Chapman's face.

Brocamonte presented it to the Authenticator like he was presenting a holy relic to the pope. That was fucking great.

For Game 1, then rotate as usual:

HP: Alan Porter
1B: Doug Eddings
2B: Gary Cederstom
3B: James Hope
LF: Lance Barksdale
RF: Sam Holbrook
Replay Games 1-2: Jim Wolf
Replay Games 3-end: Alan Porter

Just posted this on facebook, but it applies here too:

On top of not being a who's who of umpiring douchebaggery, this is a pretty good crew. I think the worst in this group is Porter, who has been known to have a bit of a short temper, but compared to the usual suspects, he's amazing.

No. He is not as tall as Springer who played it perfectly and just missed.

If Springer had been able to take one more step before he jumped, he would've caught it at the apex and made one of the greatest plays in ALCS history.

I don't think Reddick is faster than Springer at tracking balls, and Springer had a bead on it all the way and went to the fence and leapt, so I doubt him being in right would've made any difference.

Brantley singles to CF on the first pitch
Bregman...3-0...walks, Brantley to 2B

That's it for Severino, Green in

Gurriel lines out to RCF...hit it hard, but right at 'em

Agreed.  Hell, it could be argued that Tampa Bay was stealing signs, the way they laid off quality breaking pitches (Osuna's outing in Game 2 comes to mind) throughout the series.  I don't think that is the case, but their ability to do so was impressive.

Regardless, good teams steal signs and there is no rule against it as long as it's not being done outside of the accepted guidelines. Picking up signals from the coaches boxes or while on base is just total gamesmanship.

If you are legally stealing signs, good for you for being smart enough to do it and pulling it off.

284
Did Cintron discover the tell from video, prior to the game? Or did he catch it in the lead off Springer at bat?

Maybe the discussion was about something else, but if I had determined that a guy was tipping pitches, I wouldn't announce it to the world by grabbing Correa on his way to the plate and excitedly explaining it to him.

If the TV camera hadn't picked up their meeting, nobody wouldn't noticed a thing.

There were several shots of players discussing probably the tipped pitches during the first inning.

How would you have suggested Bregman let Correa know? Let him finish his at bat then whisper to him in the dugout?

Also, knowing what pitch was coming did nothing for Correa. He had a horrible AB.

286
Glasnow said in the postgame that once he reviewed the video it was obvious that he was tipping. He wouldn't share the details.

Also, apparently Cintron is the tipping savant.

Judging just from the camera cut of him yelling at Maldonado in the 7th or 8th, I'd say that is a fair statement.

Also, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, Joe Girardi is fucking horrendous in the broadcast booth. I hope some team hires him just to save the baseball loving world from having to live through that experience again. What a fucking slapdick.

Holy fuck, Correa just got absolutely fucked by the umps.

Strike one was 4 inches low.

Strike 3 was questionable at best on the check.

SWING AT THE FUCKING MEATBALLS THEY'RE THROWING FOR FUCK'S SAKE!

298
Man, it's like a fucking disease. Astros just swinging through fat pitches left and right.

299
Holy fuck, Alvarez. That was right down the fucking pipe.

300
Correa is flashing leather tonight.

301
It's almost like the Astros have entirely forgotten the first inning, and putting together good at bats while swinging at hittable pitches.

This is painful

302
Nothing like strike zone consistency.

And at bat consistency. Taking and swinging through so many hittable pitches.

303
Bad swings, bad at bats, no life.  Their letting the Rays hang around when they need to punch them in the throat.

The only good news is they're putting together long at bats. But I doubt Snell sticks around much longer.

304

Man, come the fuck on Cole.

God damnit.

310
Didn't help Correa...he was lost

Or Reddick. He was an hour behind all 3 of those fastballs.

311
And Correa has the first shitty Astro at bat of the night, taking two fastballs and wildly swinging at a curve that bounced.

312
Bregman stops on the way to the dugout to tip Correa off on something about Glasnow.

Attababy Yuli!

Bregman (or someone else) has picked out something that is giving away his pitches. He said "something something curveball, something top fastball".

« on: October 09, 2019, 05:44:29 pm »
This right here.

In fact, if you told anyone before the series began that we'd start Verlander in Game 1, Cole in Game 2, and Grienke in Game 3, then cobble together enough pitching to allow four runs in Game 4, they'd take that.

And, as noted, short of JV giving up zero runs, they can't win when the offense shuts down.

Anyone pinning the loss on JV/the pitching decisions is borderline brain dead.

The offense was an absolute no-show again until the 8th inning. You can't expect to win every game 1-0.

So, I'm seeing all the day after managers saying how JV was "over confident" or too tired and should not have pitched yesterday.  I still stand by the decision.

Partly, I'm just sick of people who rarely watch the games start commenting on them now.  It's getting on my nerves today.

Like 25,000 of the fans in the stadium yesterday?

320
Another center cut fastball.

Offense better wake the fuck up for Game 5, because the shitty fucking effort tonight isn't going to win many games.

321
And Yuli takes 96 right down the fucking middle to start his at bat.

Fuck.

322
Another putrid at bat with RISP.

323

328
They'd best unfuck themselves then.  They've shown no interest in it so far.

This 100 percent. It's the fucking playoffs, and we've got guys not running all out on grounders, and up there just slapping at hittable pitches.

Now is not the time to play trash baseball.

329
Chirinos works the count 3-1 then swings at a pitch around his eyes.

Then takes a fastball that catches a ton of the zone for strike 3.

What the FUCK!?

How about ONE inning where the Astros put together more than one good at bat!?

Fucking trash baseball.

330
Astros hitters just slapping at the ball, not even attempting to drive it.

This is just sad.

331
Joe Girardi is legitimately one of the dumbest fucking people I've ever heard on television.

332
It's fucking embarrassing how much they're sucking off the crowd of the team that had the second lowest regular season attendance this year.

333
Fear not, Verlander serving it up. That was on a fucking tee.

334
Jesus Fucking Christ. Of course.

335

336
This team looks totally uninterested in playing baseball today. This is fucking pathetic.

337
I hope Garrett has a shutout in him Thursday.

These at bats are fucking pathetic.

338
Verlander is throwing fucking pus this inning.

Also, Astros hitters... This is what happens when you actually swing at strikes.

339
Verlander looks gassed already.

Verlander is throwing fucking pus this inning.

340
So far in 1 game + 1 inning, the Rays are murdering every single mistake pitch the Astros make.

And the Astros are taking those pitches.

341
God. Fucking. Damnit.

1-2 meatball.

342
Boo it up, you bunch of fair weather fucktards.

343
This fucking guy has thrown THREE spinning breaking balls center in, and the Astros have swung at zero of them.

But Altuve swung at a pitch that was probably going to hit him to strike out, so we've got that going for us, so that's nice.

And Bregman swings through a spinner at the top of the zone.

Fucking beautiful.

The only thing more predictable than Girardi shoehorning the Yankees in to conversations for no reason is Chirinos swinging a foot off of high fastballs.

He's hanging a little bit of everything.

354
Greinke is literally throwing BP.

355
Sure glad we put 20 pitches on Pressly in a totally non-needed situation there.

356
That last Ray pitcher threw 2 sliders that just cement mixed at the top of the zone, and the Astros did nothing with either of them.

357
Alvarez has been completely overmatched today.

That at bat was absolutely embarrassing.

Trump is no doubt guilty of just what you've said.
.
In the below article the authors of the book that was used for the NYT article gave some statements that the Times editors left out some details that they believed to be in their words “significant”.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/nyt-kavanaugh-book-skullduggery-132959100.html

From the linked article…

That all is certainly a bit questionable at best.

Much like everything about this story, Kavanaugh (and all the shit that has come out about him) is greasy enough that details just seems to slip and slide away enough to cast doubt.

I guess the problem is it plays into the "Fake News" narrative.  It's going to be called fake news by Trump supporters no matter what, but leaving out these details gave something of substance to be pointed to backing up the fake news claim.

I don't see how leaving that out has anything to do with it happening, but okay.

Trump's tried and true plan is to call everything a lie then quietly let the facts fall in to place that it did happen and never acknowledge it again.

This follows that pattern, just with a wrinkle in the story.

1.) Joe West has no business being a big league umpire, and the next 5 years of his "career" are going to be increasingly trash.

2.) Tucker delivered twice, one in a nice spot and once in a huge spot. Good for him.

3.) Uncle Mike is a fucking badass. Period.

4.) What a shit night for Miley. Good on him for not throwing a tantrum/storming to the clubhouse. The fact the Astros scraped up a win is a insane.

From your lofty internet perch, do you know that he wasn't?  The people in his closest circles, those that actually know him, sure thought he was.

For the larger group, just because someone has opiates in their bloodstream, does not mean they are an addict.  If, for example, someone with a barking shoulder is given a common pain killer by a trusted friend, it does not mean they are an addict.  It just means they made a really stupid mistake.

Maybe Skaggs was an addict.  Maybe he wasn't.  Some on here are asserting, assuming or suggesting he was and that is not fair to him or his memory.

My anger related to his stoic response to his error was wrong.
I can never "unsee" Giles beating himself publicly for his mistake.  It was/is painful to watch.
Thankful Osuna is on the team and has taken full advantage of his 2nd chance.  Tho a gifted athlete, it is all to easy to forget that he is human, just like me.

I wasn't wanting him to punch himself in the face or punt his glove in to the stands. But a simple acknowledgement that you fucked up is a good thing for everyone involved. A chest pat "my bad".

Game Zone 2019 / Re: Astros @ Brewers - 9/2/19

and the coach to whom you may be referring at least once each year had a player lob a ball to first instead of “step and throw.”  I do not know if a high lob is a physical or a mental error. If his sin was not showing that he cares enough, ok. Perhaps he should have done as you suggested. He was stoic. He came back to get the next hitter on three pitches, and I imagine Hinch will take care of any perceived lack of competitiveness. I also do not know what he said to Hinch or to his teammates in the dugout or in the clubhouse. Maybe he said “my bad” to them.

Not you necessarily because I always thing the best of you, but much of the profane venom on here, in my opinion, is directed at his past, not his performance. No one on this team loses composure because of a mistake, not even a big home run or a crucial high lob from SS, and that is good. That coach you had also did not tolerate negative shows of emotion or fits of pique.

Lollygagging a routine out on a speedy runner because you elected to not hustle is a mental error pure and simple.

If he fields, turns , and throws a strike to first, ballgame over and he doesn't have to strike out the next guy with 2 on.

100 percent mental to me.

And who gives a shit what other people's motivations are for being pissed. Osunu fucked up, stupidly. Giving a team 4 outs is never a good thing.

Happy ending is he came back and got the next guy, but that doesn't make a really terrible mental error any better.

I had a coach once that said he never had a problem with physical errors, but mental errors were never ok (or something along those lines).

Maybe just a tap of the glove to the chest and a "My bad" or "Lo Siento" toward the dugout would've been nice instead of looking like he just realized that 60 Minutes was going to be late since Sunday Night Football was running late AGAIN.

Bregman takes a fastball on the outside corner, strike 1. Takes another outside corner pitch, strike 2. Bounced, ball 1. Bounced again. Suarzed about to throw the most pitches he's tossed in his MLB career... Meatball Bregman rips down the LF line past a diving third sacker, easy double.

The Yankees got swept by the A's this week.

Thaiss takes ball one, called a strike off the outside corner. Up and out, 1-1. Swings over a breaker, 1-2. Fouled off an outside fastball. Slow curve right down the fucking middle hammered on a line to right, Reddick slides to cut it from getting to the fence and fires it back in, but not in time. Theiss on 2nd, nobody out. Reddick looks a little worse for wear after that play.

But where the fielder was positioned, his momentum carried him out into right field (sort of).  would he have really spun around and fired to third?  I mean, it's all moot now, so no big deal.

You're talking about Chirinos, not Altuve. Also, probably a little fresh in everyone's mind that making dumb outs at 3rd is gonna get you yelled at.

Champ with a runner on 2nd and 1 out, ball one low and out. Brantley's all white helmet is absolutely covered in pine tar.  Fouls off a cookie right down the pipe, 1-1. Ball, low. I would like to say again that Altuve intentionally sacrificed in his at bat. WHY?! Ball 3, breaking ball that broke WAY outside, 3-1. His helmet looks fucking hilarious. Strike 2, off the outside corner... This HPU fucking sucks so far. Full count fouls off an outside corner that clearly he felt he couldn't take. Same again, but further out. Line drive to left, Upton back and makes the catch at the edge of the warning track in front of the Crawford Boxes.

2 outs.

Showtime takes strike 1 down the chute. Swings through a change on the outside corner, 0-2. Just off the plate, ball 1. Slaps an 67 mph outside curve foul.  Drives one to left center, but it's playable, Marisnik hauls it in standing still.
