Impossible for me, I hit saturation point a few years back. Probably from watching too many TB-Yanks games.

Greinke appears very calm out there.

pop-up can o' corn for the first out to right center, Springer gloves it.
Judge hits the first pitch to deep center, Springer tracks in down on the track.
22 yr old (who is 'ridiculously' talented according to Buck), strikes out.
after 1/2 inning, Astros 0, Yanks 0

Springer, strike at top of the zone, two balls out, strike at the bottom, grounds up the middle, thrown out 5-3, 1 out.
Brantley, strike, ball, grounds to second, Torres falls down and throws out Uncle Mike 4-3 from his butt. 2 out.
Altuve, swings at first pitch which is outside, pops up second pitch to first. 3 outs.
After 1, Astros 0, Yanks 0.

I'm going to say this just this one last time, for this post season, anyway. You guys do this to yourselves. For all of you in Nexas, turn on the radio. For all of you outside of Nexas, drop $10 on MLB At Bat or whatever the app is. Your lives will improve immeasurably. In my own case, my blood pressure is down to about 240/180, so that is something of a triumph.
-
Encarcion , ball slow lazy fly to Tucker in right. 1 out
Ridiculous "Tale of the Tape'
Stanton, ball, swinging strike, hit to the deep hole at short, Correa lays out to prevent it going to the outfield but can't throw him out. Man on 1st.
Gardner, ball, high curve for a strike, curve outside, strike, ball down, liner to Yuli at first who calmly steps on the bag for a double play.
3 outs.
-
I liked THAT Gardner.
-
Astros Offense > Yankees Offense. They just had to give the yanks something to not show the Astros > Yankees overwhelmingly.

Bottom of the second..
Bregman, Strike, fastball down the pipe at 90, ground to short.. out 5-3 (bad throw dug by lemeheiu). 1 out.
Alvarez. curve ball called a strike but was low, ball high, foul, ball low, half swing called a strike. 2 out
Gurriel first pitch grounded to short.. 5-3. 3rd out.

Bottom of 3rd,
Correa, ball, strike on the outside black, grounds to third... out 5-3. 1 out.
Tucker, first pitch lined to right for the first hit.
Chrinos, swinging strike on down and out, foul, ball high, throw over - tucker dives back, ball down, grounded in to a 5-4-3 double play.
After 3, Astros 0, Yanks 0
-
Pretty fucking awful AB by Chirinos.
-
That ball was taylor made for hitting through the right side, right on the lower outside corner. That would have been first and third with one out for Springer. Instead, he tries to pull it and grounds weakly into the DP.

Greinke isn’t getting the same calls down in the zone that Tanaka is in my biased opinion.

Top 4,
D.J. Lemeheiu. First pitch grounded to left...
Judge, called strike, swinging strike on down and out, ball outside and down, wild pitch.. Lemeheiu goes to 2nd, strikes out swinging. 1 out.
Torres, gapper into left center scores Lemehieu. double..
Encarcion, foul, ball on the bottom of the zone called a ball, ball down, strike down the pipe, held off a pitchers pitch, swing and miss on the slider.. 2 out.
Stanton, first pitch swinging pops it up to spring in right center. 3 outs.
Astros 0, Yanks 1

Bottom 4 - top of the order
Springer - Strike 1, ball 1 high and tight, strike 2 on the bottom of the zone, ball 2 way outside, ball 3 down and out, strike 3 swinging. 1 out
Brantley - strike 1 on the outside, foul (strike 2), ball 1 high, foul, fly ball to Stanton in left.. 2 outs
Altuve - strike 1 swinging on the outside edge, down and out for ball 1, ball 2 low, ball 3 down and out, foul (strike 2), foul, strike swinging on the outside.. 3 outs.

They need to stop swinging at that slop off the plate.
-
The player nobody wanted in the lineup is the only one that's done anything against Slopnaka so far.

Seems they need to maybe spit on those third strike pitches though Tananka is throwing some great stuff on the outside..
-
Tanaka only throws junk, and he’s making the Astro hitters look silly so far.
-

The pitches that struck out Springer and Altuve were balls out of his hand. Easy for me to say, but it’s their job to recognize that.

Upon reflection, I am not surprised Greinke's zone is a bit less consistent than Tanaka's. He changes speed more and throws weirder pitches. Tanaka's kind of a basic bitch.

I'm feeling pessimistic about the team's offense tonight. I knew that when the count on Altuve went to 3-2 he'd strike out on a ball off the plate.

Gardner - high strike 1 called, low strike 2 called, strike 3 called! 1 out
Sanchez - ball 1 down, curve right in there for strike 1, ball 2 outside, fouled back for strike 2, duck snort to center..
Urshella - ball 1, foul for strike 1, strike 2 swinging as he goes down to a knee, ball 2 down, lined to left.. men on 1st and 2nd
Gregorius - swinging strike 1, ball 1 outside, Fly ball deep right, Tucker grabs it. Sanchez scampers to 3rd. Men on 1st and 3rd, 2 outs.
Lameheiu - ball 1 outside and down, curve ball fly to center. Springer grabs it. 3 outs.
Astros 0, Yanks 1

With the way Tanaka pitches, the Astro’ hitters need to think backwards and do a better job of spitting on Tanaka’s junk out of the strike zone. He’s not going to throw them many fastballs.

Urshella - ball 1 up, curve fouled for strike 1, strike 2 foul tip, strike 3 swinging! Have a seat meat! 2 out.
Gregorius - curve smacked to right field past Yuri.. Tucker gets to it and holds him to a single.
Lameheiu - ball down, base hit to right.. men on 1st and 2nd..
Judge - ball down, base hit to right.. Tucker gets it in to hold Gregarious at 3rd..
Torres - wow.. what a pitch called a ball. strike 1 on the inside corner.. strike 2 swinging, wow.. ball 2 on the outside black, ball 3 barely down, flicked to short center.. 2 runs score... great piece of hitting..
Pressley crapped the bed so it's James on the bump to pitch to

Brantley - ball 1 high and outside, strike 1, strike 2, opposite field single to left.. this starts it..
Altuve - slider gets him to swing and miss for strike 1, ball 1 (was a strike but hey.. bout time), hit up the middle and the two infielders watch it go into center allowing Brantley get to 3rd.

Even a shutout doesn't do much when your team doesn't score

Top 8, James pitches to

Sanchez - breaking ball high, ball 1, fastball high ball 2, strike 1 called at the top of the zone, 98 down the pipe strike 2, 99 on the outside black gets him swinging! 3 outs.

A couple things -
1. We are better when we are aggressive (any pitch, any count type of readiness)
2. We need to go to opposite field better (Brantley drove one right at Stanton) and Bregs once but the Chirinos DP is stupid
3. Who the fuck cares about pitch count when it comes to their starting pitchers --- their strength is their bullpen (claimed to be)
So lets get after them on mistakes
4. Would not hurt to get on base more (shit I'd take a bunt from Chirinos or a strike out there; anything but weak sis to 3rd for 2)
Hit em where they aint.
-
While the announcers were blowing every member of the Yankees bullpen, James has a great inning.

3 over 6 innings is a solid day against their offense.

Agreed. Greinke did fine. This offense better wake up soon.

I think the Astros were tipping their AB’s....

Would absolutely love getting after Britton here... cocky little fuck.
-
My current predection is this series ends 4-1 Yankees.
The Astro offense is garbage at best.

There’s a shaved gorilla vibe to a lot of the Yankees. Britton and Gardner to name two.

All they have to do is win every game Verlander and Cole start. No big deal, right?

That would imply that they score at least 4 runs.

Would not surprise me if that is on their minds, it was on mine.

It was definitely on the mind of the Yankees.

Several Yankees have been shown on camera looking inside their caps at notes or whatever, and Judge blocked a camera from seeing what he and two coaches were looking at in the dugout. To be clear, I don’t care in the slightest and don’t think anything untoward is occurring, but, if it were the Astros, there would be an octo-box panel of former Yankees and Red Sox discussing the ethics of the situation.
I might need to switch over to the radio feed.

Gurriel - ball 1 outside, way outside.. ball 2, ball 3 high.. get-me-over fastball for strike 1, not even close.. walk..
Correa - ball 1 down and in, foul for strike 1, foul for strike 2, ball 2 down, foul, foul, strike 3 swinging at 95 on the outer half. 2 out
Diaz pinch hits for Chirinos, first pitch grounded to Gregorious who steps on 2nd for the 3rd out.

Diaz really doesn’t seem like an ace pinch hitter in a small sample size. Then again, a chopper to short is about an average offensive for the Astros tonight.

"Incredible defensive play."
You mean the one where he went 6 steps to his right and caught a line drive? And then tossed it back into the infield to double off a guy who stumbled and slipped while turning around? Yeah, that was almost like Roberto Clemente.

Ordinarily I'd be optimistic about tomorrow with Verlander on the mound, but since we're in an American League park and he won't be batting, I'm not sure where the runs will come from.
-
1st game - supposed to be energy, excitement and possibility.
This is/was the complete fucking opposite --- playing dead ain't a strategy
No confidence that tomorrow will be anything different --- all it takes is one of their meat heads to go the other way off Verlander to right field and we are back in the same type of game. We need to get the fucking lead and hold it from the get go.
Not sure where runs are gonna come from.

Top 9 Abreu in to pitch
Diaz now in left, Brantly to right
Urshella - first pitch opposite field home run.
Gregorius - ball 1, popped up to left.. Diaz grabs it. 1 out
Lamehieu - ball 1, ball 2, ball 3, strike 1, walk
Judge - ball way outside, ball 2 low, ball 3 low, smacked into left center.. Lamehieu goes to third..
Torres - ball 1, strike 1 swinging on a breaking ball, ball 2 down and away.. Judge takes 2nd uncontested grounds to Correa 6 -3. 2 outs Lamehieu scores.
Encarnacion - strike 1 swinging, ball in, ball 2 up, foul strike 2, ball 3, foul, walk
Hinch has seen enough...
Rondon on to get the third out
almost hits Maybin.. ball 1, 96 on the outer half, strike 1, ball 2 down and out, strike 2 swinging, foul, foul, foul, strike 3 swinging.
heading to the bottom of the 9th

3 hits tonight. That's it. Makes me very sad.

God, the first game isn't even over yet and already I'm tired of hearing how fantastic the Yankees are.

Last at bat.. Loaisiga pitches to
Chirinos? Grounds out. 5-3 1 out.
Springer - quick 2 strikes.. ball 1 grounded to third.. 5 -3 2 outs..
Brantley - ball 1 outside, ball 2, foul strike 1, foul strike 2, fly ball to left. 3 outs.
Game is over.
Astros 0, Yanks 7

Yep. I think they follow his lead. They know how good they are and they know that baseball is hard, they take it seriously and they keep their eyes on the prize. They'll be back tomorrow. I think we win the next two.
But the Yankees are really fucking good.
-
Fuck it, I'm going fishing.

I kinda like John Smoltz as color...

Greinke fine, bullpen terrible, offense worse than terrible.
The Astros need to wake the fuck up or the Yankees are going to ass rape them.

It doesn't seem possible but I believe by the end of this series I will hate Brett Gardner even more than I already do.
So, how did this prediction turn out?

The home run ball bounced off the giant wall and back on to the field. Yankees leftfielder Brett Gardner picked it up. He saw Houston bullpen catcher Javier Bracamonte walking past him toward the pile of Astros gathering at home plate.
“Here,” Gardner said, handing him the ball. “Take this. You guys are a great team. Now go win the World Series. Represent the American League well.”
Said Bracamonte, “It was so classy. And Aaron Judge gave me a hug and said the same thing. I have so much respect for those guys.”
Bracamonte later gave the ball to an MLB authenticator.

I wish you didn't post this, it is nearly impossible to berate the guy after reading the article.

So, how did this prediction turn out?
Yeah, didn't pan out. Pitchers just did too good of a job keeping him off the bases. And then the Bracamonte anecdote, like you said...
-

I liked the fact that he did pretty much fuck all with the bat for the v whole series. It was also fun watching him blame the HP ump for him swinging and missing a lot.

This might be my favorite thing so far.
Gregorious knew it was gone off the bat (unlike me). Urshela went to cover second but knew it was gone after about a step and a half.
Even from that far out, the look of "What the fucking fuck just happened?" is obvious on Chapman's face.
Brocamonte presented it to the Authenticator like he was presenting a holy relic to the pope. That was fucking great.

Torres covering second? Agreed (!) re Bracamonte’s presentation.
The OFers were very deep in a no doubles defense so anything Altuve hit had to be hard, high, and off the wall or over it to score Springer. When he hit it, my first thought was “that’s out,” then I saw it was headed toward the bullpen well. I was not certain till it hit the wall, and I hoped Springer was sprinting.

I never did figure out how far along Springer was and what would have happened if the ball had bounced off the wall still in play. Did anybody else see where Springer was?
ETA: Never mind, I just watched that outfield video. Springer knew it was out almost immediately and started jogging long before he got to 2nd. And Torres headed to cover 2nd and then just kept jogging to the dugout; that was fun to see.

Torres, not Urshella.
Also of note, Springer was fucking FLYING, but was looking right at it, so he hit second base with his hands up in the air and started to trot.
