Astros franchise top 3 web gems is on BB Tonight...well...tonight.

My vote is for the Impossible Double Play (Bruntlett to Everett to Berkman) from NLCS Game 4 last year.

Edited to add:  The Link
How can you ask me a question like that?  Do you ask The Beatles that??

Speaking of Bruntlett--does he see the light of day again before the September callups?

No way.  See the NYCU for complications involving getting Hirsh on the team.

So who goes down. Borkowski? Nieve?

I don't think Nieve. Garner really likes him.

Has he pitched since being recalled?  I believe the rest of the bullpen has.

Get your head out of the minors and watch the big club once in a while.

Or at least read the recaps~

So, Garner likes him so much he let Nieve do mop up duty in two games. I agree I don't think it will be Nieve, but Garner's use of Nieve doesn't suggest he likes him that much. By usage, he looks no more important to Garner than Borkowski does. They've got to figure out a way to demote a bench player.

No, I get the idea that Garner likes him from Garner saying that he likes him. The previous information was only as an answer to your direct question.  Garner had been using Borkowski about once a week for the last 3 months.

Garner wants 12 pitchers for what reason? Nieve or Borkowski can each provide long relief or even spot start. I don't understand the need, based on the starters keeping up the quality starts.

I get that he likes Nieve and don't dispute that. His usage however suggests he prefer Nieve in lower pressure situations. That, IMO, doesn't bode well for Nieve's stint in Houston right now.

I don't read it that way.  I think Nieve might be in for some late inning work down the road.  However, Qualls, Wheeler, and Lidge are still his go to guys.

Counting on Backe, Clemens, and Hirsh(etc) to get past 6 innings on a regular basis might be too optimistic.

Yep, and he will be only a few short hours away. Sept. 1st will ease the squeeze, but future playoff rosters are set on Aug. 31st, correct?

I miss Bruntlett, he was the real utility player.

Bruntlett had to stay in the minors for at least 10 days.  Will whoever is sent down also have to stay?

Thanks for the heads up, I haven't watched BBTN in forever but I will definitely tune in tonight.  The DP you referenced is certainly the most memorable since I have been a fan, but I also loved the 9-3-4-2-5 play to end a game against MIL in 2004.

Wouldn't 20 games in a row be reason enough to consider having some extra pitching? Up until now, they have had some days off. Then pen could be pressed in the next couple of weeks, even with quality starts, just because they have to be available every day.

As to who goes down, I actually thought Burke might make a good choice, if I understood correctly that he doesn't have to clear waivers like Lane. Unfortunately, without Bruntlett, who takes some of the load at 2nd when Biggio needs a rest? I know Lamb and Ausmus have put in an inning or two, but I don't think of them as really fitting the role, Brad especially. Lane seems to be the only player to make sense, if they can get him moved....one way or another.

Burke stays unless Bruntlett comes up, he is also the backup shortstop.

No way.  See the NYCU for complications involving getting Hirsh on the team.

So who goes down. Borkowski? Nieve?

My guess is Lane.  They have a pretty heavy workload over the next few weeks (I don't see any days off comming up soon).  Garner will want to go back to 12 pitchers.

I agree.  Bagwell was a stud.  So even keeled.  Check out how he just walked by Lambo after Mike made the tag.

You don't see Baggy jumping up and down alot like some players ... Sean Casey, etc.

I thought Gar might go to Nieve last night in the 8th when the stros went up 5-1.  Seemed to me to be a good situation to bring him in and have him pitch 2 innings and close it out.  If that doesn't get him in, then I can't see how he does any more than long relief this year.  That's ok with me I guess (as if it matters), I just like him and would like to see him pitch in some high value innings.
