SAN FRANCISCO (SnS) – The Houston Astros played a contest on Saturday evening here against the hometown San Francisco Giants, and lost the match in extra frames, 2-1. It was the Houston team’s ninetieth loss of the 2011 campaign. Astros manager Mills tried some things, not enough of them worked. Mills is handicapped by an undermanned team, and a lack of imagination, personality, or any sort of personal dynamism.

Houston’s nemesis for the second straight night was former teammate Jeff Keppinger. Kep hit a game winning double on Friday night, and a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the tenth off of Astros reliever Fernando Rodriguez to seal the victory tonight. In the process, Houston wasted a fine starting effort by beleaguered right-hander Brett Myers.

NOTES

1.) To Brad Mills – Jose Altuve is not a leadoff hitter. At all. Please re-think this before next season.
2.) MSNBC keeps showing a shot of an entirely empty main terminal at Grand Central Station. Even the misguided flash mob guy isn’t there.
3.) To Brad Mills – Why is Jason Michaels . . . never mind.
4.) There were tornado warnings in Brooklyn around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Very strange.
5.) At the current pace, the Astros will finish this banner season with a record of 52-110, in last place in the NL Central, about 150 games out of first.
6.) New Jersey Governor Chris Christie could play nose tackle for several teams in the NFL.

In short, the Astros suck. Irene blows.

What the fuck? And so it goes.

The waterfall’s trinkling
Like bells to my ear
The earth rolls out before me through smiles and tears

A country lost
A soul discovered
The ruin that I once was will soon recover

And I know a howlin’ wind runs through here
Blowing every day
A howlin’ wind runs through here
Takes my breath away

Gargoyle watching the bouncing ball
Strangers mystified by all
All the goings on

Sufficiently breathless
Sufficiently breathless

Hearing and watching all the city sounds
No one to care about us
Seems it’s falling down around us

Sufficiently breathless
Nothing left to live for
Sufficiently breathless
Nothing left to live for
Sufficiently breathless
Nothing left to live for
Sufficiently breathless
On the street where we live
