DSL Astros – OrangeWhoopass http://www.orangewhoopass.com Mon, 11 Aug 2008 14:01:43 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.6 The Good & Bad Report: DSL Astros http://www.orangewhoopass.com/2008/08/11/the-good-bad-report-dsl-astros-2/ Mon, 11 Aug 2008 14:01:43 +0000 http://www.spikesnstars.com/?p=1357 The DSL Astros are bad. There is not much else to say. Their record is 17-42. It is the second worst record in the 37 team DSL. There are six organizations in the league that have two teams with better records than the D-Stros. Only the split squad of the Diamondbacks/Reds have a worse record.

The Good:

The Hitters

As as team, they rank highest in stolen bases.  Their 105 swipes place them 6th best.  Their team walks (280) place them 9th best.

Miquel Arrendell is the lone bright spot for the DSL Astros.  His 51 walks lead the league and his .480 OBP also leads the league.

The PItchers

The pitchers aren’t as bad as the hitting.  The leading starter on the staff, Martin Espinal, doesn’t make the top ten in any category.  He touts an ERA of 2. 54 and a whip of 0.97 and a win/loss record of 2 – 6.  That my friends is the highlight.

The Bad:

The Hitters

The DSL team ranks near the bottom in most categories.  Here are the low lights.  They have the 3rd fewest triples (8).  They have the 3rd most strike outs (525).  They have the 3rd worst batting average (.211) and Slugging (.262).

The Pitchers

Nothing really awful here but a few worth mentioning.  As a team, they have given up the 9th most runs (332) and are tied for the 7th most home runs surrendered (20).  The fact that they are in the top 10 in runs allowed but not in earned runs allowed indicates some defensive problems.   Four infielders for the D-Stros have combined to commit 82 errors (Miguel Arrendell (18), Amilkin Rodriguez (23), Jhoan Mejia (11) and Luis Bryan (30)).

Carlos Gil is tied for 8th most runs allowed (41).

Leonel Del La Cruz is tied for 6th most HR allowed (4).

The Good & Bad Report: DSL Astros http://www.orangewhoopass.com/2008/06/26/the-good-bad-report-dsl-astros/ Thu, 26 Jun 2008 20:48:14 +0000 http://www.spikesnstars.com/?p=1230 It is time to start checking on the numbers down on the farm. The DSL Astros play in a 37 team league. To make it to the top 10, you must really distinguish yourself. Right now, the DLS Astros aren’t very distinguished. But atleast they are not hanging around the bottom 10 either. They currently sport a 8-14 record and are tied for last place in the DSL San Pedro division. All stats as of 6/25/08

The Good:

Hitters

The DSL Astros have taken 113 walks which is the 4th most in the league. Their 44 stolen bases is good for 5th in the league.

Pitchers

There is not much good to say about the pitching other than it is better than the hitting. The pitching ranks about the middle of the pack in most categories. Martin Espinal looks like the strongest of the bunch, but is 21 which makes him old for the league.

The Bad

The Hitters

They have struck out 201 times for 5th most in the league. Their slugging percentage is tied for 32nd. The Astros are in the bottom half in most offensive categories.

The Pitchers

Their 129 runs surrendered puts them in a tie for 8th most in the league. Their 25 hit batters puts them in a tie for 6th most in the league.

Martin Espinal has plunked 5 batters in 24 1/3 innings. That ties him with several others for 3rd most hit batters.
