WELCOME TO ORANGEWHOOPASS.COM.
OrangeWhoopass.com was unleashed on an unsuspecting World Wide Web in 2002. In the fall of 2002, a motley assortment of diehard Astros fans, still stinging from a September collapse, found themselves without an online home. Kev and Scott’s AstrosConnection.com and its no-holds-barred TalkZone, long-time stomping grounds of Astros faithful on the Internet for six years, were finally put out to pasture, with Kev and Scott hanging up their spikes for a well-deserved retirement.
A handful of former contributors and Zone-dwellers refused to let the spirit of the old site disappear. Drawing together their programming, graphical and writing talents, they set about creating a site, including a reinstituted TZ, with a nod of tribute to Kev and Scott’s efforts, but with a new and separate identity of its own. When this can of Orange Whoopass was opened on October 31, 2002, the new TZ immediately became a haven for online discussion of all things Astro.
In those early days, the driving motivation was to get the site up and running as soon as possible. Over the years, features have been added and hundreds of new Zone-dwellers have logged on. Starting in the 2008 season, OrangeWhoopass.com became SpikesnStars.com, launching a new era of Astros fansitedom and providing a better avenue to showcase some of the best baseball and Astros commentary this side of the tubes. However, with the Astros returning to blue and orange team colors in 2013, it only seemed appropriate to revert the site’s name back to OrangeWhoopass.
Operated by unpaid volunteers, OrangeWhoopass continues its long tradition as home of the most incisive Astros content and discussion on the Internet.
Noe is often referred to as the “nice” admin, but don’t let that fool you. This guy is a malcontent, ne’r do well and a bad, bad, bad man. Or what you would call a typical Internet poser. But he draws nice pictures, so we let him hang out with us.
Waldo actually is old enough to buy alcohol, contrary to all the jokes that have been floating around for years. He does all the other technical stuff that would make him no different from the rest of the ubernerd society, except that he’s married and wears deodorant.
HudsonHawk is just happy to be nominated. He is practically a Denial League legend, and is proud to say that 30+ years of donning the tools of ignorance has not affected his spelling ability. In his spare time, he likes to argue. He occasionally contributes news and game recaps.
Andyzipp does very, very little around here. Frankly, he’s been coasting on some quasi-humorous posts he made back in 1998. He’s parlayed that into a vanity column and admin access. But hell if we ever see him actually administrating anything. And the frequency of that column? Snails think it takes him a long time to write. We think he probably has pictures of Kevin and or Noe in compromising positions. That’s really the only explanation.
Arky Vaughan has been author of the Crunch Time column on AstrosConnection, OrangeWhoopass, and SpikesnStars.com since the 2001 season. An unapologetic stat geek, Arky is one of the few Zone-dwellers demented enough to enjoy a lively discussion of OPS or zone ratings. Arky contributes game recaps and news updates from time to time.
