If two of the voters who had JV first and Cole second had changed to Cole first and JV second - it would have been a tie. Would have liked to have seen that. Close vote.

The WSJ two days ago had an article on Trout. Over the last seven seasons, the only player in MLB history with a higher WAR was Babe Ruth, from 1920-27. Although not for lack of trying, no team with a superstar of that caliber has less postseason success than him. He extended his contract two years before it expired, and he is figuratively buried in LA

No problem with Trout winning.

Bregman had HRs all season. But he didn't really start raking until midseason or so. He puts it together from April thru September and he'll have his MVP.

His contribution filling in at SS was probably underappreciated nationally.

This was the tie-breaker for me. He filled in at the most difficult position for a couple of months and played it well. I don't think he got enough credit for that.

Brian Kenny actually his 65 games played at SS this season as his tie-breaker and declared Bregman his MVP pick minutes before Trout was announced. So at least someone was giving him credit.

It was 17 to 13. I’d say quite a few gave him credit.

His playing every day should have been taken more seriously in my opinion. Value is greatly diminished on the DL.

He lost to the best player in baseball, that’s it. I did see a tweet yesterday showing the vote was pretty much split, other than writers from The Athletic. Six of their seven writers voted for Trout.

And similar to the Cy Young, the top 2 were each 1 or 2 on every ballot.
