St. Crispin's Day
« on: October 25, 2019, 07:47:14 am »
This St. Crispin's Day finds the happy few facing heavy odds. Will Washington be their Agincourt or their Balaclava?

Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd—
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day!
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

As delivered by Branagh.

In other Shakespearean news, my school - founded by renowned Shakespearean actor Edward “Ned” Alleyn* - turned 400 this year.  Still going strong and still pumping out actors and entertainers.

* Fuck Ben Affleck.
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

My school will turn 60 next year - named after Jose Robles (1817-1907), local Tampa pioneer, born in Madrid, Spain.  Perhaps we were more Cervantean than Shakespearean, and probably pumping out more meth addicts than actors.

And yes, Fuck Ben Affleck.  He refused to film Live by Night, a film about Tampa, actually *in* Tampa.
