When I look at video of old World Series from the '40s through at least the '60s I notice how poor the field conditions are. In front of the plate it is often all hard pan and there are dead spots in the outfield. After a full season of wear, the groundskeepers of the day were hard pressed to provide a playable surface.
Contrast that to today's postseason with virtually perfect playing surfaces regardless of climate or number of games played.
Historically, baseball's horticulture has never been better.
