Semien leads off with a shiftfuck ground ball single
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

C'mon, Wade, buckle down here.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed

Is he tipping pitches? A flaw is in his delivery? Guys usually don't go from third in the league in ERA to eight runs over 1/3 of an inning in two outings.

He’s just throwing puss. Soft contact and the shift killed him to start the i inning.

That was literally like batting practice. It would be hard to imagine a batting practice pitcher inducing more hard contact.

Miley and Biagini combine for 13 runs in 0.1 innings.

Quote
In some of his recent outings, his cutter hasn’t been as sharp and he’s been wild. In these last two, he’s felt like the cutter has been on point. The A’s tagged him for seven singles and a walk on Tuesday in chasing him in the first inning. Their hitters committed to staying inside Miley’s cutter and hitting it the other way.

“I think the other team has a really good approach against me right now and I’m not making the adjustment,” Miley said. “Again I felt like, it’s crazy, I located pitches pretty well for the nine batters I was in there. I got singled to death tonight. But at the same time, I’ve got to make better pitches.”

The cutter revived Miley’s career last season while he was with the Brewers, and his heavy usage of it isn’t likely to change. It lacked in August on the days his fastball command faltered, as the two pitches work in tandem. But he threw 20 of his 28 pitches for strikes on Tuesday, so that wasn’t the issue against the A’s.

“Their approach was pretty incredible,” Astros manager A.J. Hinch said.

After he was bounced Tuesday night, Miley spent the rest of the game studying video. In his opinion, the A’s hitters’ swings didn’t suggest that he tipped his pitches. If it’s as simple as the opposition figuring out an approach to combat his cutter, he will have to adjust.

Statistics.

When the data models indicate that the infielders need to be positioned elsewhere, the Astros will move them.
Unfortunately, now is not the time to be collecting more data points.

Play straight up at least if we need a dp.

Pitching inside is not the complete answer. Inside out the ball the other way.

Exactly. I am surprised it took so long.

I am reminded of a story I heard from a high school coach. His team was facing a fire baller who could not throw his curve for a strike. So he had them practice hitting fastballs thrown from in front of the mound and laying off curveballs all the time. Simple but effective.
