That last 5 minutes was some of the worst football I've seen in some time.

Florida - I don't want to win this game, you can have it

Miami - fuck you, I don't want you to give it to me, you take it

Florida - no seriously, I'll just make penalty after penalty until you have no choice but to score

Miami - taking sacks is fun

Texas Tech upsets Oklahoma State 45-35. In spite of giving up 35, Tech's defense won this game. New coach Wells and his O.C. Yost can breathe a little easier this week. QB Jett Duffey taking advantage of his opportunity to get better and get a win against a tough team.

Turns out I can't read: I misread both of those finals (I was looking at the spread; I blame Altuve). Still, it takes a last-second field goal to beat Kansas? That's not going to sit well.

And Herman appears to be blaming everyone else for the fact that this team continues. to be. all-world horrible in the basics.  He lives and dies by the trick plays, and he is not going to consistently beat anyone if he cannot shake that approach.

Orlando needs to go yesterday.

The fact that Texas's 2s couldn't even keep up with Kansas is major league alarm bells. Understandable to scuffle against LSU.

Prior to this year would have been preferred by me. That’s about as disorganized group of good athletes as I’ve seen.  Merely adequate defensive coaching would have given them a puncher’s chance at making the playoff.  Instead, they’re fighting to be considered as good as Baylor and Iowa State.

I haven't seen much of Baylor, but Iowa State may shred them. I figured Texas would have trouble tackling Pooka because that guy is just downright elusive, but it was worse than I expected.

Well, I am grateful that we finally got the Bama losing streak to end. The end was more exciting than I wanted. I give major props to Tua, who played his hurt ass off. I don't know how wise it was to have played him so soon after surgery and what it could mean in future games, but I suspect that Saban knew that he had no shot with Tua.

LSU almost stomped their collective dick last night.  But they just grazed it.

The operative word is almost. I thought that we outplayed them and outcoached them and should have beaten them by two touchdowns. We certainly would have had the game been in Tiger Stadium, but we were in the bowels of Bryant-Denny.

Far from out coached them. You were defending against an onsides kick at the end because your defensive coordinator had his head completely up his ass. After getting completely outplayed in the second half. If that game is 2 minutes longer, LSU completes the dick stomp. It’s not that they didn’t try to gag it, they just ran out of time.

LSU has had two games that ended up being closer than they should have been (Auburn and Alabama).  That habit might come back to bite them if they don't solve the problem.

Three. It’s apparent at this point Texas has no business staying that close.

LSU and Arranda did what they needed. I don’t think it’s dick stepping; it’s just their talent level this year, coupled with the explosive offenses they’ve faced.

Congrats to the Tigers, btw. A big monkey off their back.

Playing press coverage, up by two scores, with 1:21 left...when the ONLY thing that can beat you is a quick score, say and 85-yard touchdown pass ON THE FIRST PLAY of the drive...is  inexcusable.  It's just horrible, horrible coaching, irrespective of the talent level.  They may not have stepped on their dick, but not for lack of trying.

You are absolutely correct on that; it was inexcusable. My focus was more macro on their D throughout the year.

Meanwhile Alabama is at number 5 in the CFP poll/ranking/whatever they call it.

With Georgia and LSU ahead of them and presumably on a collision course for the SEC title game,  the committee has their Darling Crimson Tide poised to get into the playoff.

If you can't even make it to your conference championship game, you should not be in the CFP. That would cause some of these conferences to reconsider the weak division/strong division game that they play, where the second-place team in the strong division gets to stand out of the way and wait for mayhem.

I figure Alabama is done unless the P12 tanks before their championship. If they beat Auburn, that’s all they’ll have to argue, and that’s a weak argument.

Baylor whose wins at Kansas State and Oklahoma State and at home over Iowa State are better than Alabama's win at A&M.  Minnesota's one big win is also better than Alabama's.  At this stage of the season I prefer to look at quality of the schedule more than style points and eye test.  I'd also not have Georgia at 4.  Home loses are killers to me, and Georgia's is awful.

My top 4 would be LSU, Baylor, Minnesota, and Ohio State in that order.

I agree that Bama should not be in the mix and hopefully my Auburn Tigers will help make that case in the Iron Bowl. I am hoping we can beat one of Georgia and Alabama to finish a crazy hard schedule 9-3.  If we can beat both and end up 10-2, I will be on cloud 9.  8-4 will not surprise or disappoint me.

Higher than 5? No one.

As long as LSU beats Georgia, the Tide should be in.

My thesis is the committee's worst nightmare is not being able to get them in.

Geez, SEC hype over the years has hypnotized too many people.  There is no argument for Alabama that doesn’t amount to “they played LSU close at home” all while sort of ignoring that the “closeness” was a result of a kick return and a late bomb.  Other than that, they got beaten all over their own field by the only good team they’ve played, but yeah, they are deserving.

Let me clear about Tom Herman. He proved that I know nothing about picking coaches. I wanted him in Baton Rouge, but I'm so tickled that I was wrong. Herman played the two schools against each other. I want Texas to return to prominence because I think that college football is better when Texas is strong (I maintain the same things about Michigan and USC).

I think that Texas is better than 6-5. Texas played LSU tough. I wrote after that game being highly complimentary of your QB, who I think is an exciting player. Will Herman be successful? Time will tell. However, let's just say that he's off to a bumpy start in a place with little patience (except for Mack Brown, who you should have fired at least three years prior to when you did) for mediocre results. Query how this impacts recruiting. I guarantee you that it will have some adverse effect on recruiting.

I am elated and highly surprised by Orgeron's success. I mean he was 10-25 at Ole Miss (where it's impossible to win except for if you're cheating or Johnny Vaught is the coach). He's running things like a CEO and hiring (and paying) some of the brightest minds in college football. It will be interesting to see if we can retain Joe Brady. If I have to choose which to retain, either Brady or Aranda, I'm keeping Brady. LSU is winning despite a swiss cheese defense.

It's hard for me to know how much of Texas' 6-5 record to attribute to injuries, which have been a big problem this year.  But I do know that the coaching has been poor.  It hasn't sunk to Charlie Strong levels yet, but even Mack Brown's teams were usually better coached.

Compare Tom Herman's three year progression with Matt Ruhle's progression at Baylor. Also consider that Ruhle had to recruit with the label of Rape U hung on the school and also that he went 1-11 his first year.

Compare Tom Herman's three year progression with Matt Ruhle's progression at Baylor. Also consider that Ruhle had to recruit with the label of Rape U hung on the school and also that he went 1-11 his first year.

Coaching matters.

This drives me crazy because the NCAA will burn a program to the ground if a kid takes a loan, but coaches covering up rapes doesn’t even hit on their radar.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I mean, this sort of thing is not unique to the college game.  In the NFL:

Assault a woman: suspended a few games
Smoke weed: suspended up to a full season
Kneel for the anthem: lifetime shadowban

I'm pretty sure he takes that as a complement.

What really annoys you is that LSU is undefeated and ranked No. 1 in some polls, while your Longhorns are bowl eligible.

What really annoys me is when people modify “unique”, like “very unique”, when unique already means one of a kind.

But this is way up there.

I'm annoyed when people tap their brakes for no reason. Also when they wont pass or move over. That annoys the hell out of me. Or two cars driving side by side 5 miles below the speed limit on a two lane interstate with a parade of cars behind them that only want to drive the speed limit. Fuck them! Those people are total assholes.
