I give them credit for doing this and not playing the options excuse and sending down Straw.

It's been coming. I'm kind of surprised it happened tonight but this does take them back to 13 pitchers

The guy was signed as minor league filler and was never expected to play in the Major Leagues. He over-performed at every level except the Majors. The man lived the dream and I salute him.

Farewell, Tyler and success in your future!

Nicely said.

Even with his struggles to produce this season, he seemed to keep an even keel.   And his defense at 1B was better than I thought it would be. Ultimately though he was here to drive in runs, he didn't,  and that's that.

His contributions in the second half last season were huge,  and played a part in breaking the team out of the August malaise. So we can put that into his Astros bio.

Exactly. I hope he catches on somewhere where he gets another shot at the big leagues.

I think he will. If there’s room for Reed in the majors, there’s gotta be room for White.

Indeed!
Too easy to forget.
Remember his fast start in 2016?
Early on, some viewed his approach to the plate as a "nice" change of pace.
He gave a lot of Walter Mittys hope.

He was a feel good story, until he decided gaining 100 lbs over the off-season was more important than being a professional athlete. Death by cheeseburger.

One of my favorite things about him was his being called to pitch in relief. Saw him do that this season and it shocked me to see the Meg on the mound. All the best to him.

Yep. No one to blame. Just better options for the Astros and he was out of them. I don't know about how his weight gain might have or have not affected his performance. There's been fatter guys than him that have done quite well. I wish him the best.

As a fat guy, this is nuts. You think the Astros suggested his off-season program should be nachos and bud heavy?

Fuck off. I thought you were gone. Even big league pitchers (almost all of them-maybe Bartolo Colon wasn't) are tremendous athletes. I've played in a fair amount of pickup basketball games with several big league players, and every one who I played could ball.

I really liked White except when I hated him. I marveled at his defensive prowess. Don't know if dropping 30 pounds would have made him a better hitter but it sure wouldn't have made him worse.

Today is a day to give him honor and some fan love.

It takes little or almost nothing to acknowledge him as a former Astro trying to fight for our club.

Not everyone is meant to be a permanent fixture, or to lead us to glory.
Not everyone is meant to hit 500 feet homers and take the league by storm.
I like the fact that he is an every day guy who tried to get the very best from his talent.

Hopefully, he will make use of this experience to help himself, his family and the community of baseball out in life.

We are all just renting space on this earth rock turning 23.5 degrees - T White gave what he had, and helped the club at times.

Hoping to see him on a rebuilding team, perhaps living the dream a little longer.
Will long remember him stretching out to over 60 pitches to protect the pen in a losing cause this year, to be relieved by none other than Stassi.

Hinch called the conversation he and president of baseball operations and general manager Jeff Luhnow had with White “brutal.” The team essentially cut ties with White to call up Urquidy, but his days were numbered considering Diaz and Correa are close to returning.

“We just told him the way the roster was shaping up, we needed an extra pitcher today to start the game and over the next week we’re hoping to get Diaz and Correa back and the roster was going to squeeze him off the team,” Hinch said. “We thanked him for what he did. It puts his career in a little bit of a detour for now. We’ll see what happens to him over the next seven to 10 days.

“From a 33rd-round pick to the big leagues to a big splash when he first made the team to outperforming the Minor Leagues to coming back and literally carrying us as a DH last season to being out of a job and off our team, it’s a brutal conversation.”

The tough part of managing and general managing. I wonder if they won't have to go through it again very soon with Kemp. That will be especially difficult.

When I saw White in Greeneville after he was drafted, I didn't see a MLB player.  I thought he was a a roster filler only.  He has made the most of his opportunity.

Regarding Kemp, I think with Correa not eligible to come off the 60 day until later this week, it gives them more time to work out a trade that will involve Kemp so they don't have to DFA him.  That is best case scenario IMO.
Always ready to go to a game.
