Big XII Tournament
« on: May 22, 2019, 02:23:35 pm »
Bricktown OKC:

West Va. beats Kansas in the first game 12-8.

Texas Tech leads 5-1 through 4 innings.

University of Texas did not qualify for the tournament. shakes head

Tech is looking to solidify a top 8 seed in the NCAA; West Va. and Baylor are looking to host a regional, even though I think they've already earned it; TCU just trying to salvage something from the season with an outside shot at making the NCAA tournament.

D1 Baseball has Tech and OKS in the tournament at overall seeds of 7 and 10 with Baylor and WV at regional 2 seeds.

I understand I don’t follow college baseball closely, but I can’t fathom how UT went from top-4 to not even qualifying for the CONFERENCE tournament.

Not the Big XII, but the Southland Conference Tournament starts today at the  Skeeters ball yard in Sugarland. The University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio is making their first ever Div 1 postseason appearance. I hear they have a good coach, so check em out.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Kansas State and Kansas are tied at 11 and are going into extra innings. An ugly game with 7 combined errors. This is the first game today and will possibly play havoc with the schedule.

Oklahoma State shuts out Baylor 5-0.

So Oklahoma State and West Virginia are in the proverbial catbird seat and have the day off tomorrow as we wait to see which teams emerge from the losers bracket.

Texas Tech vs Kansas and TCU vs Baylor tomorrow.

The winner of TTU/KU will play WV and the winner of TCU/BU will play OSU on Saturday.

Texas Tech vs. West Virginia is next up for the night cap of their double-header with the winner playing for the title tomorrow.

Conference tournaments are stupid.  Goes against the whole way college baseball is played.  Regionals too.   Everything should be 3 game series.  But TV....
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Since when are round robin tournaments going against the way baseball is played?

Since it’s the opposite of how the entire college season is played out?   Besides leading to ridiculous pitch counts, a 3 game series is a much better option.

TCU and Oklahoma State go into extra innings tied at 5. TCU scores one run in the top of the tenth, but OSU responds with two runs in the bottom of the inning to walk it off at 7-6.

Oklahoma State vs West Virginia for the final. I'm not sure when the game will start.

I agree that two out of three is a better format, but the double elimination (not round robin) group of four is the next best thing. It allows for a team to recover if they run up against a lights out pitcher but rewards the team that wins its first two games.

West Virginia pitching is dominating so far. After one-hitting the Red Raiders yesterday, they've only given up one hit to Oklahoma State through four innings today in the final.

WV 1 - OSU 0 after four innings.

Oklahoma State comes back to win 5-2.

Oklahoma State is the 2019 Big XII Tournament Champions.
Texas Tech wins the regular season championship.

Both are likely to be national seeds in the NCAA tournament. West Virginia has done enough to host a regional, Baylor may also host a regional and TCU may have done enough to squeeze into the field.

The Big XII is a great baseball conference.
