Good situational hitting by the first three hitters.
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it

Good situational hitting by the first three hitters.

If by situational you mean they hit the everloving fuck out of them.

Also, anyone else notice the crowd noise being picked up by the TV mics sounds very Pro-Astros. Even the polite strike-one applause.

White is missing cripple fastballs in fastball counts. He’s a huge gaping hole in this lineup.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Fuck “the clock”. This isn’t a team in rebuild mode. If a player can help he needs to be here. Period.

Hilariously. I was discussing the Rangers with a female friend of mine (who also likes the Astros, but is a Rangers fan first). She was telling me that their fucking shitshow of a TV broadcast declared that Andrus's slow start was because they were mowing the grass differently than last season, and his recent hot streak is because he has "gotten used to" the new mowing pattern.

No one wants a player rushed. But Luhnow has also been clear that they are not sacrificing wins in 2019 for what *might* happen six years from now.  This isn’t 2013 anymore.  The Astros are in a position few teams, or GMs, ever find themselves in. He knows that.

It was Dave Raymond. I don't think I need to do any proving.

I never heard him as an Astros broadcaster.

Please tell me it was Nitkowski that said this.

oops, just saw that it was ol "laughable" Raymond

Pretty sure it was Dave Raymond, but I/she could be wrong.

No one wants a player rushed. But Luhnow has also been clear that they are not sacrificing wins in 2019 for what *might* happen six years from now.  This isn’t 2013 anymore.  The Astros are in a position few teams, or GMs, ever find themselves in. He knows that.

Wrong place for it, and I may be Cabrerra'd, but there's some good quotes from Alvarez and his coaches in here:  https://www.statesman.com/sports/20190415/scary-good-yordan-alvarez-muscling-express-to-top-of-pcl

That’s it.  He’s not costing them wins.  They’re scoring plenty of runs.  So there won’t be a rush.  If they go to 13 pitchers I’d imagine he’s gone though.

I’m not talking about Alvarez in particular, I’m talking about replacing Tyler White. I don’t know if Alvarez is the guy  or not. No one has suggested that he be brought up if he’s not ready. I’m just saying that his “clock” should not be the reason he isn’t if he *is* ready.

I would call replacing him in April rushing.  His history suggests he’s a better hitter than he’s demonstrating right now.  That said I don’t think he’ll be on the team come July.

He's at 31 ABs for the season.

Interesting to see if they get him more ABs in the next 2 series.

I'll grab PBP.

Brantley doubles down the RF line.
Correa does the same. Drives in Brantley, 5-0 Astros.
Yuli yanks one down the LF for another double, 6 -0 Astros.
White battling, fought back from a 0-2 count, now 2-2. Takes a called third strike that has been incredibly inconsistent on the outside corner, but you have to at least try and foul it off. 1 out. 6-0 Good Guys with Yuli on 2nd. Chirinos up.

Tyler has to protect,  but he had seen several sliders that started there.

On comes Dowdy with runners on 1st and 3rd.
Marisnik down 1-2, 2-2, grounded foul, swings through a fastball at the top of the zone. 2 outs. Rangers have 11Ks on the night. That pitch was VERY hittable.
Springer drills one down the line to right, off the top of the wall! One run scores, 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs. And AJ is asking the crew to take another look at this.

That ball looks like it crept over the fence and bounced back. Umpires looking at the review. In play, did not clear the fence. Holy fuck. That ball cleared the fence. What an awful call. It completely went over and bounced back.
Altuve up with runners on 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs. 7-0 Astros.

Bottom 5, JV on the hill.
Forscythe (sp, but who fucking cares) lazily pops out to left, F7.
After further replay, it's 100 percent clear Springer hit a HR and replay boofed it. Fucking embarrassing.
1 out,  Mathis down 0-2 quickly. frozen on a nasty curve. 2 outs.
DeShields smokes one off the wall in LC on a hop for a double.
Choo lazily flies out to CF.
3 outs.

I am in absolute shock that wasn't called a home run. It was blatantly obvious on the replay that it went out.

Please bring on the robot umpires. The humans are too fucking stupid to be employed any longer.

Top 6:
Bregman slaps one past the 2B for a single that looked basically past the standard 2nd base spot. Runner on 1st, no outs.
Brantley works the count to 2-1,  3-1 low, takes ball 4 low, called a strike, 3-2 count foul, (Rangers fuckstick fans doing the wave), 3-2 again up and in, walk. 1st and 2nd, nobody out.
Dowdy still pitching, Correa up. 2-0 count. 3-0. Mound Visit. Inside corner, strike 1. Smoked right at the SS, tosses to 2nd for a double play.  That ball was hammered, but right at Douchey Shark. 2 outs, 1st and 3rd.
Yuli pops the ball to right, caught easily to end the inning.

If it happens, wouldn’t be a bad call either. Haven’t checked in about 3-4 days but last time looked Straw was hitting over .400 there.

Of course it is early and the AB’s are limited.

Bottom 6:

Santana hits a solo jack just over the fence in RC. 7-1 Rangers, as they play their pretentious douchebag The Natural song for a homer that just snuck over. 7-1 Rangers.
Andrus takes strrike 3, called a ball. 3-2 the count. Punches one to Yuli, L3. 1 out.
Mazara 0-2.  jammer behind 2nd. Altuve makes the play easily. 2 outs.
Gallo down 0-2 quickly, swings over a change. 3 outs.
After 6, 7-1 Astros.

Chirinos quickly down 0-2, 1-2, ponche! 2 outs.
Marisnik 0-1, fucked by Stu 0-2, 1-2 in the dirt, high and away, 2-2, slashed to RF but caught my Mazara.

Stretch time, 7-1 Astros.

Devo and James should close out the last 2 innings.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

Can we get through the 7th first before worrying about that?

Great performance by JV.

Very long waits during the offensive half innings.   He was steady throughout.

Guduan in to try to close it out...

Mazara lines out to LF
Gallo crushes a monstrous home run to the 3rd deck penthouse in RF, possibly killing a family of four
Cabrera...3-2...walks

That’s it for Guduan, James in

Forsythe grounds into 1-4-3 double play

Funny note:

One of the shows on KTCK kept a swear jar for lent.  They agreed at the outset they'd take the cash and bet it on the Rangers.  Turns out of course that they get Smyly vs Verlander for their end of Lent wager game.

Guduan pitched his ass off in Florida, shame it hasn't carried over.

It would be wonderful if James got his mojo back, he's the 7th inning guy they need.

Rondon  has been great in the 7th. If James gets it going, he’ll be in the rotation.

Next question?
