I'll bet he's excited about James warming up.

A partial list of songs for which I don't stand and take my hat off:

God Bless America
America the Beautiful
Battle Hymn of the Republic
Sweet Home Alabama
Dixie
Any song by Lee Greenwood

An exhaustive list of songs for which I do:

I'm pretty apathetic about the Anthem being played at sporting events where the participants do not have USA printed on their uniform, but of course you treat it with respect whenever they play it.

Santana was their last baserunner after his 2-out rbi double in the 3rd.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s jingoistic. Plus, why does the bearded man in the sky only bless America? I typically don’t stand for other Irving Berlin musical numbers either...

Why do you think that a plea for God to bless America means that he ONLY blesses America?

I pray for my family. “To hell with everyone else” is not implied because of that.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Right, the song isn't called "God Bless Only America".

Right, the song isn't called "God Bless Only America".

Well, obviously it should be.

I get it. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case with everyone. I guess some of you are too young to remember the Muslim ban of 2018. Some of those “shithole” countries are certainly not considered blessed by some. At least where I live, the desired implication is very clear.

I wish I hadn’t started this... my bad!

9 in a row! Woohoo!

Despite the sweep,  Seattle looks like they'll need to be reckoned with the rest of the season.

Maybe, but Mariners twitter sure is enjoying the ride while it lasts.

I'm just glad the Baptist aren't at war with the Catholics like the Sunni are with the Shia. That would be so fucked up.

Some assholes may infer it, but the song does not imply it.

Mark, shame on you for not providing your father a classical education.

I have always marveled at Mark’s pop culture reference expertise. I could not hope to keep up or, most of the time, have even the foggiest clue about where he gets stuff. I think he memorized every line of every Simpsons episode.

I know this doesn't (or shouldn't?) affect how you feel about the song itself, but here's a new twist:

Sports teams dump Kate Smith's 'God Bless America' because of her racist songs

The author was a man of his time, and he cribbed the song from the Brits, so there's that.

I think Ray Charles' version of "America the Beautiful" should be the Anthem, personally, only slightly kidding.  That song gives me a slight tear or 3 and some goosebumps.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"
