Edgardo Sandoval has retired.  Brandan Feldman (who apparently re-signed and appeared once for the Hooks) has been sent to Fayetteville as has Hunter Martin.

Woodpeckers tap out 4 HR last night - De La Cruz, Adams, Beer & Meyers.

They also struck out 15 times (De La Cruz 3, Papierski 3, Beer 2, Adams 2, Shaver 3, Meyers 1, Manea 1)

Enoli Paredes with a great start - 5 1/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2BB, 7 K's  Through his first 4 outings, he has a 1.17 ERA in 15 1/3 IP with a WHIP of 1.11.  Control has been improving over last two starts.
Always ready to go to a game.

Beer hits his league leading 9th homer this evening.

It appears he’s leading the league in slugging and OPS.  I’m assuming he’s not long for the Carolina League.

It's been a while since I've seen this name mentioned, but put this name in your back pocket for later reference: Jojanse Torres.

Some good words about the "unknown" from the Fisher trade.  A bit long but worth the read: (recent) Astros Betting Cal Stevenson Will Be Steal Of Derek Fisher/Toronto Deal

"Stevenson’s 90-game “taste” of the Florida State League’s High-A Dunedin....  ...Scoring 59 runs (tied for third) complemented his 50 RBIs, while 50 walks (fourth in the league) to 52 strikeouts yields a BB/K ratio that’s unheard of. "

and (last year) Some Interesting Potential- Cal Stevenson

"....probably one of our best baserunners in the organization — and anticipates on the base paths and in the outfield, where he can play all three spots. Apart from being a talented baseball player, he’s such a quality person, and I think that will continue to be a separator for him.....on base in 56 of the 59 games he has played so far."

Slow start (.205) since the trade, but has 9 BB to go with 5 K so far.

It's time to put Jeremy Pena on your radar.  There's a real possibility he's turning the corner offensively.

What do we need to know about him?

High end defender at shortstop and strong arm.  Coming out of college his bat was a big question.  If he has figured out hitting he could fast track.  Keep an eye on what level he starts at next year and how quickly he gets promoted, if he does.

If he's assigned to the AFL this fall then the Astros have a good feeling about his future.

Thanks.  I had completely forgotten that he was last year's 3rd rounder.

As I recall, there was a lot of praise for his makeup when he was drafted.  No surprise, as he's the son of former MLB Shortstop Geronimo Pena.

I think Luhnow mentioned him on a pre-game interview a few weeks ago. That is worth more than any stat sheet.

Kaplan reports Pena is indeed going, along with Whitley, Matijevic, Shaver, Torres, and Sanabria.

Well, here ya go:  per Kaplan tweet "Astros minor leaguers assigned to the Arizona Fall League: Forrest Whitley, Jeremy Pena, JJ Matijevic, Colton Shaver, Jojanse Torres, Carlos Sanabria."

Thoughts in short:
Whitley is going in order to throw more innings this generally wasted year.
Pena was previously discussed.
Matijevic also lost a lot of time this season.
Shaver I can only guess is going in order to continue working at catching.
Torres has a big arm. He's old for high-A. The AFL will be a test of his overall stuff.
Sanabria has been one of the closers for CC.  No doubt he's going to test him for the leap forward.
If Ivey is going then again another guy that needs innings.
Goin' for a bus ride.

What a (wood)pecker move.

Also PBP guy should lose his job for his butchering of the call.
