Game of Thrones Season 8
« on: March 14, 2019, 11:17:41 pm »
Winter is almost over but somehow winter is still coming. I can’t wait for some resolution (however slight it may be) to this decades long story.

I’ve organized a local watch party. Yeah, I’ve gone that far. Fuck it.

Any predictions?

I'm trying to be excited for this season but all the sloppy writing and Hollywood feel to the last 3 seasons has me just ready for it to be over.

My prediction? Cerci sits on the throne at the end because the showrunners have a hard on for Lena Headey

So I'm still working my way through Season 2.  So if you're gonna post spoilers, please give us a heads up beforehand.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Since Texas appears NIT-bound, and my interest in college hoops is fairly tepid to begin with, I am going to put together a GOT Death Pool with some friends instead.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Appears?

Let us know what your pool is...  The only reason I really watch college hoops is the tourney and rooting for the small schools.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

Ive run one the last 2 years, its a lot of fun to be a part of.  Had 47 people in it for Season 7.  Probably be in the 60s this season.  We did $20 an entry.  Here is a link to the final scores if you are interested.   And if anyone here is interested in joining just email goftdeathpool @ gmail dot com

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

How do you assign the character points?

The less a character is picked, the more points they are worth.

Scoring is based on % of people who selected the character who dies.
10 points per death, multiplied by the % bonus.
Scoring example:
(If there are 10 people in the death pool)
7 people select character X, who dies. 10 points times 30% multiplier = 300 points
2 pick character y  who dies: 10 points plus 80 point multiplier = 800 points
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Season 7 was really awful and everything good about the show is long gone. I'm still going to watch it I guess.

I'm of the opinion that after season 4, it's not been a very good show. My (future)wife and I have been rewatching the other seasons to prep and I couldn't get through season 5, I told her to let me know when she gets to season 6 and I'll try again.

Season 5 is no doubt the nadir. Season 6 is outstanding, and I found the highs of season 7 outweighed the lows - but it was definitely uneven.

I had plenty of problems with season 5 (including other episodes throughout the series - but that’s to be expected with so many different directors) and was often frustrated week to week with what was going on but... if I might suggest, try picking out 6-10 of the key episodes (Red Wedding, Blackwater, Battle of the Bastards, etc.) to get back in the flow. Rewatching those episodes has been a blast and I’ve been able to fill in most of the blank spots at the same time. I think this last season will be memorable.

Eta:

Also, it’s amazing how much crazy shit happens under the radar in those keystone episodes. You watch them for the first time and obsess about the major players that just bit the bullet and after a rewatch there’s some seriously major “other shit” that goes down.

Awesome thread.  I'll echo MusicMan's comments about season 7 and WVastro's take on how much else is going on in each episode.  The number of proverbial Easter Eggs is crazy.

For myself, I found season 2 to be a slog.  That may be due to how much I know is left of the series and how much further the story develops.  I will say that the intricacy to GoT (books and television series) is incredible.

I liked the slow pace and multi-episode dialogues of the first seasons. You need time to set expectations if you want to subvert them.

Also, GoT, amongst other things, is really creepy, disturbing and full of bad morals. Season 7 really moved away from that direction and became much more conventional, so it's quite a different show. Maybe it's good thing, but not as "unique".

Anyway, I think (like a lot of internet people) Sansa gets the throne.

I disagree. “A Song of Ice and Fire” pretty clearly refers to SPOILER REDACTED at this point and I feel sure he takes the throne.

Also, I would pay good money for a version of the series that skips every single Theon scene.
