I'm starting to get cautiously optimistic about seeing LMJ pitch this year.

I didn't think that was even a remote possibility. What makes you optimistic, even recklessly?

I'm just hoping that he's useful next year.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed

But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

They haven't publicly entertained that notion, have they?  Based on this rehab protocol from Dr. James Andrews (last page) he's on step 0 or 1 (depending on how you count it being halfway up the mound) of a minimum 12 steps before he even starts throwing breaking balls, and another minimum three steps beyond that before starting 15-pitch simulated games.  And this probably represents the best case scenario.

He tweeted a video of it.  He was throwing about 50% effort from that slight downhill angle.  It looks like he's on step 1 of phase 2.

Yeah, no way this year.

That rehab protocol is really cool.  Wild that the best-known surgeon in American professional sports just posts stuff like that publicly.

But...if I'm being overly optimistic, let's say he's in week 24 of that plan right now.  6 weeks from now, if the team is still playing, would he not be able to pitch at a game level?

Me too.  Luhnow has a tough task for next year as many of the possible solutions are question marks: current starters who are free agents, a Framber who didn’t advance and a Whitley who also didn’t advance. They’ll need Lance.

Thankfully, we can focus on the positives of the here and now.

The weeks you're referring to are in "Phase I" of the throwing program.  He just started Phase II (last page of the PDF).  Even if you assume that he progresses through each step every other day without any setbacks, he still won't be ready to throw simulated games until October.  And then if he's seeing game action then it'll be in the major league postseason.

He won't pitch in 2019.

Isn’t this the same guy that tweeted he’d like to play in the ASG because he was feeling good coming back from injury?

In the brain trust, I trust. Not some over eager, injury prone kid.

+1
One of the positives is the possible return of the king. Hinch has said encouraging things about Pressly.

Who knows?

A lot of soft contact against the shift started the ball rolling.

Disturbing last 2 starts though.

Berman and Kaplan tweets:

A.J. Hinch spoke today of getting Ryan Pressly back for “the last 10 days of the season or so.” Sounds like Pressly could be ready even sooner but the Astros are being conservative with his rehab timeline.

AJ Hinch says if all goes well Carlos Correa will get a rehab assignment this week with @RRExpress

Correa returns to the Astros tonight. Hitting 7th. Will probably play only a few innings.
