I know it exists, but I can't figure out the scenario that causes the Texans to miss the playoffs.
The only scenario involves the Texans losing to both the Eagles and the Jags, AND Colts and Titans both winning next week, AND the Colts and Titans not tying in Week 17, AND the Steelers beating both the Saints and the Bengals, AND the Ravens beatng both the Chargers and the Browns. If all of that happens, the Texans would be tied with the Ravens for the final wild card, at which place tiebreaker rules go into effect:
1. Conference record: The Texans and Ravens would be tied
2. Record against common opponents: Texans and Ravens would be tied
3. Strength of Victory: Right now the Texans hold the lead at .454 to .425. But of course that could change being that the Raven would have beaten two teams with a winning record, plus it would also depend on what other teams that other teams each have beaten do in the next couple of weeks.
So A LOT has to happen for the Texans to not make it at all.
