1. Springer
2. Altuve
3. Bregman
4. Correa
5. The Meg
6. Marwin
7. Piña
8. Machete
9. Hugs for Homers

G. Cole

On the Angels side, Ohtani with his first trip to the mound in nearly 3 months. Limited pitch count obviously.

He's about to join Babe Ruth as the only players in history to pitch 50 innings and hit 15 home runs in the same season.

I am guessing that the only reason ESPN has this game is so that the announcers can rhapsodize non-stop about Ohtani. Will they even notice the opposition?

He’s a novelty. The national attention on a unique player of a type that the league hasn’t seen in a long time bothers me much less than when the broadcasters simply dedicate more airtime to lesser players on larger market teams than on arguably more worthy players and topics. That said, I’ll have my Sonos volume up and the TV volume down.

OK, drinking rum already.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

That was a decent at bat by Correa, except for the gut fastball take. Hopefully the clutch hit last night has boosted his confidence and lit a fire.

Trout has the smallest fucking strike zone I've ever seen.  It's a square about 6 inches x 6 inches...right down the middle.  It's not surprising he hits .300.

ETA Altuve has had some better swings tonight. Not the last one though.

Are we going to look at Ohtani in the dugout all night?

Tyler,  that FB should have been smoked.

That was a good pitch to hit, and he just missed it.

No kidding.

End your suffering people.

I went to the mute button early...  switched on a little late and the first sentence I heard was about HoF numbers.  So I figured they were inducting Ohtani already, or did I get it wrong?

Does the normal home crew get the day off for nationally televised games?

Did you think they were in the booth with their mics turned off?

ARod just referenced our 1st baseman, Tyler Ward.

He said it at least twice. The best part was after his segment on the play ended there was a 2 second pause and then he repeated “Tyler White” likely after a producer whispered in his ear.

T4:

Fernandez...0-2...1-2...2-2...singles up the middle
Ward hit by pitch, Fernandez to 2B...replay didn't show it hit him...if anything caught a single thread on his jersey
Arcia...0-2...1-2...2-2...passed ball, Fernandez to 3B, Ward to 2B...grounds into FC, Fernandez out 3-2 at the plate, Ward to 3B
Marte...0-2...grounds to 3B...Bregman bobbles it, but manages to get the out at 2B...Ward scores, Marte reaches on the FC, as Arcia out 5-4
Young...3-1...takes a clear strike for ball four as the HPU has lost his fucking mind again
Calhoun strikes out looking

Angels get an unearned run to cut the lead to 2-1

Apparently ARod also doesn't know how the umpire rotation works. He just made a comment about wanting to see Gary Cedarstrom (who is part of this crew) behind the plate in a pennant race game.

Hey Alex, HE CALLED ONE OF THE FOUR GAMES THIS SERIES BECAUSE THEY ROTATE POSITIONS EVERY FUCKING GAME YOU GODDAMN IDIOT.

About 10 of those are on the HPU.

Also, the ESPN feed's home plate mic is turned up to about 115. Every bat on ball contact sounds like an artillery shell going off.

Is the rule that the scorer can't assume the double play?

Mostly.  But without the passed ball, The first out is the ground ball to white, runners to 2B and 3B...the second out is the ground out to Bregman, and the third out is the strikeout.  No runs scored.  Unless the inexplicably scored it a wild pitch.

I hate in game interviews.
I love AJ Hinch.
I hate ESPN.

Worrell button shall remain engaged.

I hate the in game interviews, as well.  I remember Nolan Ryan, years ago, called the dugout his sanctum sanctorum.  Leave them alone during the game!

Interview  highlights: Keuchel peppering AJ with seeds,  photobombing him,  then getting McCullers in a batting helmet to join him.

T5:

Fletcher bounces out 6-3
Trout...full count...singles to LF
Simmons strikes out swinging
Fernandez pops out F5

2-1 Astros

Angels pitcher straight up showing up the ump on a pitch that was 4 inches off the outside corner. Threw his hands out and gave him a WTF?! look. Their catcher had to turn around and defuse it.

The run was scored earned, I think. He did not reconstruct the way you did. Out one was at home. Out two was the force at second after the bobble. The FC out at home makes it difficult for me to think it through.

But without the passed ball, there are runners at 1B and 2B on the ground ball to White.  Even if you get the out at 1B and runners advance to 2B and 3B, no run scores on the ground ball to Bregman, then the strikeout.  Not seeing how they see a run necessarily scoring without the passed ball.

B5:

Despaigne in for the Angels

Springer...full up...doubles off the top of the LF wall...Hinch gonna have them check, but it's a double...yep, confirmed
Altuve...full count...walks
Bregman singles to LF, Springer to 3B, Altuve to 2B
Correa...infield in...full count...walks, Springer scores, Altuve to 2B, Bregman to 2B

Despaigne out, Ramirez in

White...iinfield in...swings at a pitch that bounces and dribbles to SS...Altuve out 6-2, Bregman to 3B, Correa to 2B and White reaches on the FC
Marwin...full count...strikes out swinging
Gurriel...3-0...3-1...swings at ball four and grounds out 6-3

Astros get a run, but have bases loaded and noboy out and get nothing

3-1 Astros

He isn't a AAA ump.

The broadcast corrected themselves last inning, he was hired on as a full time MLB ump this season.

Don’t forget White swinging at ball three on the bounce.

Hitters are having a tough time controlling their emotions in the batters box at home.

No doubt 3 bad ABs in a row after the Correa walk.

Tyler didn't swing at 2-0 FB, Marwin was somehow behind a 91 mph 3-2 cookie and Yuli's ball 4 groundout.

And even Correa could have taken a whack at one of those close ones to drive some runs in.

5 walks, 2 hbp (1 with bases loaded) from the staff tonight.

The other run scored because of a botched double play and a passed ball.

Made that one closer than it needed to be even without the bases loaded failures.
