Ms @ Astros, August 10, 2018
« on: August 10, 2018, 07:13:21 pm »
Let's get a lead then call time out.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

T1:

Haniger pops out F2 right over the plate
Span pops out F5 in foul territory on a nice over the shoulder catch by Bregman, who was near 2B on the shift
Segura flies out F9 on the first pitch

Good first inning by Cole...no score

If the battle is who can pick the ugliest...yeah, then win hands down.

Doug Eddings off to a great start behind home. Rings Kemp up on a pitch 3 inches outside.

Oh, great, more shitty balls-and-strikes. It really seems like the quality if going downhill. They're going to call themselves out of a job.

B1:

Kemp...full count...called out looking at a pitch in his eyes two feet off the plate.  Terrible.
Bregman...taps back to the mount...Bregman arguing it was off his foot...which it clearly was...but that's not reviewable, so it's 1-3.  Everyone in the ballpark except the umpires saw it
Correa...3-0...walks
Reddick...strike one on a pitch that almost  bounces in the other box...grounds out 4-3

What a fucking train wreck Doug Eddings was that inning.  No score

Pretty fucking embarrassing on the whole crew.

Any crew that Joe West is the boss of is going to be horrible, so it's not too surprising I suppose.

HOLY FUCK EDDINGS! This is unbelievably bad.

Zunino gets time granted mid Cole delivery.

Then punches out on a high strike and has words with Eddings, who rips off his mask and starts barking back.

Zunino takes a strike for ball one (Eddings is on crack)...1-1...2-1...2-2...Eddings calls time as Cole is releasing the ball...holy fuck he's a mess...strikes out looking
Healy grounds out 5=3 on a nice play and throw by Bregman.

A lot of umpires miss balls and strikes.

It takes a special one to miss balls/strikes/foul balls and grant time as the pitchers foot is in the air.

Marwin...0-2...1-2...singles down the RF line...hit the cutout and bounced quickly to Haniger to prevent the double
White...2-0...takes a good rip, but comes up empty...Marwin thrown out 2-4 on a busted hit and run...full count now...grounds out 5-3

Bad luck bounce leaves Marwin on first.

Failed hit/run leaves him standing in the basepath getting tagged out.

Bad luck,  poor execution.

Strike one to Maldonado was a ball, and the play itself was putrid.

It's like they're trying to not score runs sometimes.

I’m late to the party on this likely but I wanted to wait and see. What he’s done this year combined with the pressure of that AB and that bullshit strike two call makes me think he’s legit. I doubt he sees AAA again. What an addition.

Hudek's story was completely incomprehensible.

There's no way that ball that Jake caught is caught 38% of the time. Maybe 10%, but I think even that is high.

Definitely strike 3 to Haniger and cost Cole a double, and possibly the game.

Quote
With the game scoreless in the seventh, Biggio pinch hit for Clemens with one out and Brad Ausmus at first base.
Weaver struck Biggio on the left shoulder with a pitch, but plate umpire Doug Eddings called Biggio back, claiming he hadn't made enough of an effort to get away from the pitch, even though Biggio ducked his shoulder.

"He just said, 'Stay here,' " Biggio said. "I guess he's had a lot of balls thrown at him and knows how easy it is to get out of the way of them. You're sitting on a slider and know he's going to throw it, and he starts one behind you and it breaks in the middle of the batter's box."

Biggio and Garner argued the call without success, extending the at-bat. Biggio lofted a fly ball toward right field and pounded his bat into the ground, glancing back at Eddings as he ran to first.

Eddings followed Biggio down the line, and tempers flared. After getting ejected, Biggio had to be restrained by third-base coach Doug Mansolino, and he threw his helmet onto the field as he departed.

Top 8

Gordon drops a 2-2 bunt nicely down the 3B line but the  Machete cuts him down with a bullet 2-3
Haniger takes strike 3 for ball 1, goes to 2-2, doubles off the wall in left
Span singles to center,  Haniger held at 3rd
Cole relieved by Pressly
Segura hit by first pitch, leading the bases
Cruz fouls 0-1, again 0-2, takes high 1-2, takes low 2-2, low/outside 3-2, doubles off the wall,  Haniger and Span score
Seager grounds sharply to Marwin,  only play is at 1B, Segura scores,  Cruz to 3rd
Zunino Ks looking

This is the thing that infuriates me. The pitchers get ahead, and then they throw "waste" pitches that are so far off the plate that no sighted person would ever swing at them. I understand going for the corners in those situations, but jesus, these pitches are nowhere near the corners. And then all of a sudden you're in a 3-2 count and everything sucks.

And then for the cherry on top, they opt to throw a cookie down the middle.  The Astros were lucky that wasn’t a grand slam from Cruz.

The FB changes eye level,  but the next 2 were nowhere near close enough to entice a swing.

And a freaking cookie on the 3-2 pitch.

Agreed. No need to give Seager a fastball down the middle on 0-2, but he did.  And you couldn’t have put the 3-2 pitch on a tee any better for Nelson Cruz.   Being down in the count 3-2 with the bases loaded isn’t code for throw a center-cut fastball and pray it isn’t demolished.

Last home win was July 14th.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

The offense sucked, the hpu gifted them 3 outs and missed strike 3 on what proved to be the winning run,  the pitching failed to overcome that call and the offense couldn't generate a baserunner in the 8th or 9th inning.

Worst of all,  another injury.

That sucked donkey balls.

Perhaps they should have a seminar on all the different ways that a runner can score from third with less than two outs. There seems to be a great deal of confusion.

Perhaps coincidental, but Tucker was pulled during tonight’s Fresno game.
