Astros @ Rays, July 1st
« on: July 01, 2018, 11:09:47 am »
Springer getting another day off. I know he’s struggling but still kind of surprising. He sits while two lefties, Reddick and Kemp, get the start against a left handed pitcher.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I wondered about that. He didn't seem real happy.

Had not heard that. Need him in the lineup but as long as it isn’t serious it could be a blessing in disguise. He could use a few days off in a row in my opinion.

T1:

Bregman singles to LF
Altuve half swing pop out to shallow RF on the first pitch...looked like he was protecting, just trying to foul one off....on the first pitch
Bregman steals 2B, the throw goes into CF and Bregman goes to 3B on the TE2
Gurriel strikes out swinging at a ball in the dirt
Gattis...0-2...strikes out swinging at a pitch in his eyes

Astros go 0-2 w/RISP...no score
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Adames flies out F7
Sucre singles to LF on the first pitch
Hechavarria pinch runs for Sucre
Kiermaier, pinch hitting for Field, strikes out looking
Wendle single to CF, Hechavarria to 2B

And that's it for Morton, Devo in

Duffy with a bloop single down the RF line, Hechavarria scores, Reddick plays it on a hop and just stands there with the ball, takes a few hops, fiinally lobs the ball back in as Wendle comes all the way around to 1B to score...what the fuck was Reddick thinking?
Bauers flies out F7 on the first pitch

But the Astros lollygag away the lead, 2-1

Altuve drives me nuts. Ball four, tie game, not close enough to fool a patient hitter

He was swinging when the ball left the pitcher’s hand.

Given the situation, that was almost as bad a play as Reddick’s fuck up in right.

Time for Reddick to start a little something and make up for his fuck up

Looked like Reddick forgot there were two runners on base

Odd since he has to look right past him to see the batter.

That's all I can think of...looked like he was watching the batter, making sure to hold him to a single

T9:

Romo in for the Rays

Gattis homers to LF on the first pitch
White...works the count full...walks
Springer to pinch run for White
Reddick grounds into a 6U-3 double play into the shift
Marwin, pinch hitting for Stassi...grounds out 4-3

Ballgame.  3-2 Rays

What a shitty offensive series.

4 games,  7 runs,  all on homers,  0 hits with RISP.

The 9th he hit it hard, just right into the shift.  But he fucked up monumentally in the 7th.

And Altuve wrecked the 8th.

Gurriel had numerous chances, but left the bases loaded.  The next pitch...Gattis...frustrating as hell.

Marwin's error the other night...Reddicks brain fart today...two plays that could have changed this series

Who do you want to bench this time?

That wasn't me, boss. But I am more than a little worried about going into Arlington in the current funk.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

Even so, a bad throw from SS and a momentary coma in RF cost us two games.

The more I think about it the worse Altuve’s strike out looks.  If Gurriel hits the same bouncer after an Altuve walk then it scores a run.  That would be a 3-2 lead and still batting.

They might have had the infield in and it score two runs.  It completely changed the game.  It was there for the taking, just didn't take it.

Hinch postgame:

On Reddick's fuck up...he just got indecisive, not wanting to let the run score by throwing the ball to 2B...

So he just held it and let the run score, I guess.  No way to spin that one, just a mental fuck up.

To lazy to do the leg work, but don’t we have a worse record against the Rays than any other team in the AL since coming over here?

It's a million fucking degrees, and the Love Street an cigar aren't nearly as good after a bad loss.

The good news is, Gattis is on pace to hit 48 home runs in July.

21-31 all time vs the Rays.  15-25 since joining the AL.

I think an average of 2.2 runs scored per game at the trop.

That may be a tad lower now.
