2nd year in the penalty box for the Astros so no signees >$300K. BA says the following players are linked to the club (no ages given but expect the usual raft of 16-17 year olds):

I did try, but couldn't find it here, but is there a list of the signings from 2016? Seems like that was a critical decision/strategy, with lasting effects and it would be nice to follow and judge its success.

On a related note, while watching the Nats/Phils game last night, I saw Soto for the first time. Apparently, a $1.5 mil signing bonus (2015) by the Nats. What a great investment. In researching his signing bonus, I see that in 2016, the Nats also exceeded their allotment, like the Astros. Was there something special about that year that lured clubs into that strategy, or does this occur every year about at the same frequency?

Teams knew the hard cap rules on int'l signings were coming into the effect the following year so it was a last chance to blow their wad so to speak.

Astros announced the signing of 14 players today (8 from DR, 5 from Venezuela and 1 from Cuba). Includes 3 shortstops, 5 outfielders, 5 RHPs and 1 catcher. Includes the 4 players listed above.

That would imply they have info suggesting that the 4 signed players whose bonus money I have yet to see publicly reported (Daniel Pacheco, Andres Monzon, Antonio Placencia and Freddy Guilamo) signed for about $24K apiece. That seems light to me--Placencia and Guilamo would likely have signed for relative peanuts given their ages but conversely Pacheco and Monzon probably would have signed for significantly more. Perhaps MLB Pipeline doesn't quite have complete bonus info either?

The $972,600 was what was reported today as the amount remaining in the Astros' international bonus pool. The previous amount reported back in October was $1,022,600. Signings out of Mexico have been frozen since June after MLB put a ban on them after certain shenanigans by Mexican League owners. MLB has now worked out a new agreement with that league and instead of getting up to 75% of a players' signing bonus ML owners will now "only" receive 35%. And with that agreement the ban has now been lifted. Given the Astros usually have a couple of signings each year out of Mexico, expect a few with 3 months left in the signing period.

In that BA article recapping 2018 calendar year int'l signings, Ben Badler had nothing to add regards signing bonuses for the 2018 signing period other than contradicting his site's own reporting of the amount paid to OF Jesus Liranzo. The BA signing tracker had previously reported his bonus at $300K while in the article Badler says it was $270K.
