T1:

Lindor...0-2...grounds out 5-3 on a diving stop by Bregman, who gets up and JUST nips the speedy Lindor...pick by Yuli...put a blue star next to that one
Brantley homers to LF...high pop up that hits the top of the wall and bounces over
Ramirez doubles down the LF line
Encarnacion...0-2...doubles off the CF wall, Ramirez scores
Guyer...3-0...walks
Gomes pops up...infield fly rule in effect...Yuli puts it away for the F3
Kipnis...0-2...1-2...doubles to RCF, Encarnacion scores, Guyer to 3B
Gonzalez grounds out 6-3

3-0 Indians

Well Keuchel is catching a lot of plate.

The whole 'soft home run' talk ignores the fact he missed his spot with that pitch.

And then got smacked with 3 doubles.

Timely of Bregman to miss the strike 2 fastball as Bagwell talks about the importance of hitting fastballs in fastball counts.

Did Preston just say if he could change one thing in history, he would skip slavery and get rid of the slider?  Or did I misunderstand?  Wow.

Marwin with a strange one...ball down the line bounced foul, but landed fair in the outfield...foul ball, but that had some funk in it.

Thanks for the news on Reddick.  I didn't see anything posted yesterday and didn't realize he was hurt.

Hinch said he had some soreness in his leg before the game yesterday, and was scratched.  They even lost the DH last night rather than getting Reddick in the game.  He's day to day, and today is one of them.

Looked like he let that borderline 1st strike call in the first inning get to him and went into full flail mode in the second AB.

T5:

Davis...3-0...3-1...leadoff walk to the #9 hitter
Lindor taps in front of the plate, McCann pops out to get and throws out Lindor 2-3, Davis to 2B
Brantley...full count...ground out 3-1, Davis to 3B
Ramirez...full count...chops a slow roller to 3B, Bregman barehands it and throw it down the RF line...ruled a single and TE-5...Davis scores, Ramirez to 2B
Ramirez to 3B on a wild pitch
Encarnacion...0-2...1-2...2-2...takes strike three for ball three to fill the count...with another slow chopper down the 3B line, but Keuchel gets it and makes a sparkling play and pick by Yuli to get the 1-3...saves a run

4-0 Indians

This lineup's inability to generate offense is baffling.
At least in this game you have to acknowledge this is a damn good pitcher they are facing.

And great play by Dallas and yuli.

Question for the peanut gallery:

Should Bregman have eaten that ball or is it default to try and get the 3rd out/ avoid the run?

Oh, that's definitely the case. But they've also made a host of lesser pitchers look like Kluber.

B5:

Gurriel...3-0...somehow they show it 3-1...no matter, grounds out 6-3
Marwin slaps a single to LF
Gattis hit by pitch on the first pitch, Marwin to 2B
Kemp...3-0...takes a ball off the plate for strike one...tries to check his swing at a ball three feet off the plate and cannot...full count...grounds into 4-6-3 double play

shitfuck

Worth noting that the borderline strike was a ball in the top of the inning.

Did look like he failed to check on strike 2.

Altuve is amped,  fouls the first pitch,  then hits a ground rule double toward the bullpen in right- BUT WAIT- ball never got the ground,  hit the padding then bounced out so Altuve circles the bases,  BUT WAIT, apparently NY intervenes and says it's a double so Altuve Giles back

Bottom 9

Allen trying for a 5 out save

Gurriel flies out to right
Gonzalez homers to right
Reddick hits for Gattis, goes 2-0, then 3-0, 3-1, fouls off a FB on the outer half,  fouls off another homer in the zoneon the inner half,  then just misses driving one bit instead fliesout to center (ball just outside the sweet spot of the barrel)
Kemp goes to 1-2, fouls off a FB, then can't check his swing on a 59 foot slider,  play completed 2-3

Final
Indians 5
Astros 4

Too bad this game did not go 10 innings.

Can anyone explain why Smith with his track record has been so terrible?

He's pitched one inning in 10 days.  It's not possible to be successful throwing that little.  There are simply too many pitchers on this team.

Gattis' popup with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs didn't help any.

True that.

Yes he did.

4 extra base hits in the first inning.

I still don't understand the Altuve call.

I still don't understand the Altuve call.

The ball hit the outfield fence and caromed over another part of the fence.  It's a ground-rule double.

I still don't understand the Altuve call.

As soon as it touched the wall it was no longer considered in flight (I think that's the phrase they used onthe broadcast).

So hitting the wall is akin to hitting the ground.

As opposed to bouncing off Jose Canseco's head and over the wall.

My understanding of the MMP ground rules is that if it hits a wall and caroms over the wall at a point lower than where it intitially hits, it's a home run.  If it hits a wall and bounds over the fence at a higher point, it's two bases.  I've never seen this come into play in CF, but it's necessary to outline that rule because of the Crawford Boxes.

Not to beat a dead horse... but as long as McHugh is in the pen and pitching like he is and the starters are doing what they’re doing.... eat the friggin money ffs. Add a bat.

Keuchel has had first inning troubles this season. After yesterday 10IP, 15H/8ER, 5K:3BB. 7.20 ERA in the first. He has now lost one more game than in all of 2017.

Astros have not yet won this year in which they trailed by more than 2.

4-9 in one run games losing the last four.

Astros 1x16 with RISP in two games of series so far.

Sipp's last 7 appearances....5.1 IP, 3H, 1ER, 3K, 0BB.

Springers' May line so far....... .361/.400/.541
