Anyway, Mazara and Gallo may want to be light on their feet next time up.

McHugh in

Guzman flies out F8
Deshields...0-2...1-2...punches a single to LF
Choo singles to CF, Deshields to 2B

That’s it for McHugh...Sipp takes the pill

Deshields caught stealing 2-5, Choo to 2B on the throw

Mazara...3-0 on a wild pitch, Choo to 3B...3-1...pops behind the plate and McCann drops it...E2 gives Mazara another swing, and he takes strike three

1-0 Rangers

Man, that was a tough first strike on Fisher. And then he helps the pitcher out on strike two.

B8:

Reddick...full count...walks

Diekman out, Leclerc in

Fisher, pinch hitting for Marisnick...1-2 chasing in the dirt...strikes out on same...no need to throw him a strike
Altuve flailing wildly...0-2...1-2...2-2...flies out F8, Reddick advances to 2B on good aggressive base running, taking advantage of Deshields’s noodle arm
Correa pops out F3

1-0 Rangers

Kela in to try to close it...

Gurriel chops weakly to 3B on the first pitch
Bregman 3-0...takes a strike...takes another on the corner...walks
Marwin...quickly down 0-2...whiffs. Carved. Up
McCann takes a fastball down the middle for a ball...Chirinos blocked the ump...ball 2...3-0...green light swinging foul...swings through a pitch in his eyes...full count...pops out to shallow LF

Astros put out of their misery 1-0...only offense is a seeing eye ground ball.

A no hitter would have been nearly therapeutic. The 1969 team went 4-20 in April, was no hitted by Cincy’s Jim Maloney, had a retaliatory no no from Don Wilson the next day, and finished at .500.

J.D. Davis 1-1 so far tonight, batting .438.

Getting quality starts is not this team's problem. Time to go with 12 arms and get another bat.

Last three times with Verlander, he’s gone 22 innings, two earned runs and the Astros are 0-3, scoring a total of one fucking run. He could have thrown three straight 9-inning shutouts, and would be 1-2.

The Astros have scored one or zero runs in 8/20 games at Minute Maid Park this season.
- One run: 4
- Zero: 4

Unbelievable. Bats, they are sick.

This is not last year’s offense. This is a poor offensive team.

It’s a poor offensive team at home. Last I checked (some time last week) they had, according to Pythagoras, the best record in baseball. It’s weird.

If memory serves they were worse at home last year as well—or maybe that was just Altuve.

Better check again. They do not have the best record in baseball, and have not since being tied on Opening Day.  And they are falling fast. I don’t really check the standings until the ASB, but they’ve been shut down to the tune of 1 run or less in a third of their games, and it’s no longer “early”.

I think that's not very reliable with such a high-variance offense.

It would be interesting to segment their performance into "vaunting" and "vauntless" outings, then combine the Pythagorean results.  [/lazy]
