Happy 28th birthday to Altuve.

Astros down in order in the first.

Verlander gave up a single in the bottom of the inning with no damage 2 Ks.

Verlander looks dominant on "Gameday".
Still 1-0 Astros after 3
He breezed him, one more time!

He's sharp.

Can't do pbp as Sunday parental duties are numerous.

Of course,  Descalso drills a double to the wall in center as I type that.

The Correa double was a bullet in the LF corner,  the Reddick out was well struck too.

Verlander gives up a double,  gets  6-3 out,  then a walk,  finally   F9 and a K ends the 4th.

He's over 50 pitches.

Lead-off triple by the birthday boy followed up by a Correa HBP sets the table. Then Reddick whiffs on a full count and Bregman meekly grounds into a double play and suddenly the inning is over and a sure thing turns into nothing. Grrrrrrrrr.

Horrendous interference call by the home plate umpire at 3rd costs the Astros a run now. Jesus Christ, that was embarrassingly bad.

Not watching, what was the obstruction call that allowed Pollack to score?

Bregman just got fucked on an interference call at 3B that allows the Pollock to score the go-ahead run after clobbering a ball of the CF wall.

Yes, but it was a horrible call. Pollock clearly lunged at Bregman to make contact before heading for home.

ETA: Sorry, I misread your question the first time. Pollock and the ball were arriving at the same time at 3rd, the ball hit Pollock and bounced away as he slid into Bregman. Bregman turned to go fetch the ball, Pollock scrambled to his feet, WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO BUMP INTO BREGMAN, and then headed for home, where he was tagged out.

Basically Pollack is sliding in to 3rd and the throw hits him, gets past Bregman. Pollack and Bregman collide, Pollack basically throws himself in to Bregman then heads home. Marwin blacking the play up fired home and got him. Interference called,  though.

I just cannot believe a major league umpire, even a very young one,  makes that call. He was right on top of it too.

He didn't make any call at all in the initial contact at the bag (which was correct). The contact initiated by Pollock was very clearly the deciding factor for him. Not his best moment.

Gattis needs to develop an “injury” so the Astros can call JD up and so that Gattis can get some time off and then make a few rehab starts in the minors.

BBGs punish the Astros for leaving Altuve on 3rd after a LEADOFF triple.

Heart of the lineup,  nobody gets him in.

Btw radio guys didn't seem to disagree with the interference call. I haven't seen it yet but it was clearly terrible.

Maybe we should have considered pitching around Pollack since he hit the winner last night and did all their damage today.

Edited to be clear, offense, not pitching is the glaring problem.

Exactly. The reason you work the count is so that you can get a 2-0 fastball in the wheelhouse. Then you watch it go by with no intention of hittting the best pitch you’re gonna see.

What a mess.

Astros against
Angels: lost 2 of 3
Yankees 3 of 4
D-Backs: lost 2 of 3

4-6 on the 10 game homestand.

They built up a strong record against bad teams.
Against good to very good teams they're out of their depth.
To repeat, the defending World Champions against a quality staff look like rookies getting their first look at big league pitching.

Some of this could have been foreseen, perhaps. Career bench players who had stepped up not being able to sustain that kind of performance. Gattis, a good but not great player reaching an age at which good but not great players often decline rapidly. But watching five All-Star caliber players, all healthy and at or near their prime years regress drastically all at once is Just. Fucking. Insane. If nothing changes, this is a .500 ballclub.
When the Clark is dead, Spack will eat his spleen. Before he dies, Spack will put his posts under the knife so the Clark will see his threads wiped out forever...

It's certainly making me crazy.

Standing Altuve at third after a leadoff triple should be impossible for this lineup.

Gattis has to go today! Stop delaying this decision and DFA him already. Call JD back up.

Also, and this has been said here a hundred times, ditch the 13th pitcher and give yourself some more options with bats off the bench. Two days in a row we almost got caught with no other options. We were lucky last night and today didn’t go to extras. You don’t need 82 damn pitchers on the roster as long as your starters are performing like they are.

I understand the frustration with the offense, but if this starting rotation stays healthy, there’s no way the Astros finish as a .500 team.  They give the team a chance to win every game, and there’s too much talent on the offense to scuffle all year.

Agreed on both points. For some inexplicable reason, during his tenure as an Astro, Gattis has only hit well when he plays in the field.

Even Fisher knew to attack a 2-0 meatball,  Marwin.

AJ's reaction to the interference call ("horseshit rule and a bad interpretation..."

As bad as that was,  1 for 10 with runners in scoring position was the real problem.

And that one hit was in infield single that did not plate a run.

Springer, in particular, seems to have reverted to his swing-for-the-fences approach, and it's not helping.

I'm in this camp as well.

Ditto. The year-after-WS hangover thing appears neither to be bullshit nor something we're singularly immune to.

Could not agree more. Did he forget that quickly the World Series from last year and the adjustments he made?
