Except now instead of working themselves into a bad count they're popping up in early counts.

This inability to vaunt is really annoying. I don't think the Astros have scored since last week.

At least Correa's arm is still incredible.  What an amazing couple of throws!

Would anyone have bet this team could be shut out three games in a row?

Shit, I would've had no idea the game was going on if I hadn't wandered on to the GZ. A Thursday day game?

The hitters have no idea the games going on either.

It appears the book on the Astros is to throw as few fastballs as possible.  The Yankees had the same approach in the ALCS.

Ugh. Fisher. 2 guys before him first pitch swinging for hits. Fisher looks a hittable fastball down the middle for strike one. He can’t get sent down fast enough.

Not to be hyper- critical,  but was Fisher taking all the way on the first pitch?

Because if not,  good grief.

This was a terrible decision.

I hope it ends up working,  but this is not where you use Harris.

Harris was tried at closer a couple of years ago and he just did not have it. I am not sure if it is a mental thing, or just a small sample size, but it's officially a thing.

Would've required a miracle throw. It was slowly hit.

It just seems his norm to go home in those situations but I wasn't sure if he was going for the dp instead.  Thanks for the clarification.

BTW, did Marwin's strike out happen on a ball that was high?

Not that he could catch up to that heat but even Altuve watched a fastball right down the middle for strike 2. Losing this series 3-1 when at least a split was within reach...snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Did Gattis swing at a strike three that was so bad it was a wild pitch?

HPU rules he swung on strike 1 without asking for help,  angering JV.

Strike 3 started low,  went lower,  bounced off Sanchez or HPUs foot,  Sanchez couldn't locate it.

It was in the dirt, but Sanchez lost it underneath himself - that's how Gattis reached.

Why Harris?

Devo only threw 12 pitches to strike out the side in the 8th.  They needed this win to split not just the series, but the homestand.  You leave Devenski in to close it.

Sure seemed like a prime spot for Devo to go 2.

Point is that it's not a pitch you want to swing at.

Just a little description for those who were on Gameday.

Yes it was a ball that had very little chance of drawing contact.

OK, so that sucked. But remember a couple of things we saw today. Correa's bomb HR and his throw from the hole. We're witnessing something special here.

Bullpen use is a problem right now. Looks like grab bagging.

Harris has not been the same since his shoulder problem last year. He no longer has swing and miss stuff. He gets hit. A fucking leadoff walk with a 2-run lead?

Why not Devo for a 2-inning save? Remember riding the hot hand, AJ? Why not Peacock?

What the fuck?

Everyone was bragging about how complete this team/organization was in March.
And now it's a great starting rotation, two thirds of a good lineup, maybe three reliable relievers. No bench to speak of.
The upper levels of the vaunted system are mostly a slush pile of AAAA sluggers. Maybe some arms who can patch up the bullpen. And, of course, Tucker... who might not be ready for a good while.

The rotation can carry them until the deadline, but there is zero point zero margin for error. They have to be completely healthy or they're done. If they get hurt at the same pace as last year, they'll lose 90.
When the Clark is dead, Spack will eat his spleen. Before he dies, Spack will put his posts under the knife so the Clark will see his threads wiped out forever...

Trade everyone but Correa and Cole. Start the rebuild now!

No, no everyone. I have been hollering since ST we needed a LF, another hitter, and a LHP in the pen. We still do. My mistake was thinking Giles would bounce back.

I have complained all along about how this pitching staff is constructed. Too many guys, too few lefties, no real closer...just the wrong mix. It just seems like a collection of arms rather than a purpose-built staff. I don’t know if that’s led to Hinch’s strange usage or his usage plan led to the oddball makeup of the pen. I still don’t like it. Management stopped listening to me a long time ago though.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

I thought the whole reason they acquired Joe Smith was because of his Yankee-killer resume. That he's now so broken that he can't be brought in fo the bottom of the Yankee order speaks volumes.

No, Smith's been one of the best relievers in the league for years.

I wonder when the last time the Astros went 27 innings with out scoring a run.

From the Media Information: The Astros 28.0-inning scoreless streak by their offense was their longest since going 28.0 innings without a run from April 26-30, 1992

And they avoided being shut out for three consecutive games for the first time since July of 1985. Kind of amazing that the 2011-2013 Astros never got shut out three times in a row, honestly.
